A Clayton County, Georgia, man who won $1 million in August didn't realize he was rich until he found a forgotten Powerball ticket in his truck.

Ramon Rodriguez, of Rex, found the forgotten ticket tucked into the console of his truck and turned it in Wednesday.

He matched five of six numbers from the Aug. 8 Powerball drawing, winning a $1 million prize.

Rodriguez, 54, said "It's been in my truck for two months."

"I went to the computer and looked at the numbers," Rodriguez said. "I said, 'This can't be right!' I looked twice."

Shaking, the lucky winner said he woke up his wife and daughter to share the good news.

The ticket was purchased at Texaco Gas Station, 5248 Bouldercrest Road in Ellenwood. The father of two adult children with his wife, Rosa, selected family birthdays as his numbers.

Rodriguez was one of two players in the state of Georgia to win a $1 million prize from the Aug. 8 drawing.

Norcross Food Mart in Lawrenceville sold the second winning ticket worth $1 million. J.T. Willis of Lawrenceville claimed his prize in August.

Winning numbers from the Aug. 8 Powerball drawing were 3, 7, 11, 15, and 28, with Powerball number 12.

Wednesday's Powerball jackpot drawing is at an estimated $70 million to a single annuity winner.

Something similar happened to me recently.

In the course of searching for my misplaced Powerball ticket, I accidentally "found" my misplaced truck from the night before.

Not a winning ticket, but I felt like a big winner after turning up my truck.  Jester Laugh

Those cases of unclaimed winnings that we all wonder about?

This is probably the kind of circumstance behind most of them.

Makes me wonder of some large tickets going unclaimed. Perhaps a tourist passing through who buys a ticket and either promptly forgets about it or loses it, forever not knowing what was theirs for the asking.

No thank you.

But you may take the elevator to the basement floor, and stand in the coldest corner all evening.  No No

Hello fellow desert rat,

I guess that ticket was worth checking.... What?

Greetings Ronnie...

In these days of the internets, one has an opportunity to check out of state tickets. Still sad though to hear of these unclaimed winnings. ALL tickets are worth checking Idea.

BTW, I'm working to win the Pick.

I'll work my way to Mega-Millions and Powerball later.

If it is yours, it's really yours and it's meant only for you.  I love to say this to Mr. Ramon Rodriques.  Lucky for him, the ticket was not destroyed and was kept safe.  When he found the ticket, I knew, that he felt something on himself, (an instinct) that something is out there...and that happened, Congratulations to the family of Mr. Rodriquez.

Clayton County is a baaaaaaaaaaaad place.  Somebody i'll be done kilt 'im over dat money if'n he stay 'round dare.  He best be makin' hisself scarce.  After all they just re-elected by a landslide the incombient sherriff, who is up on 38 separate felony charges.  The school system there lost its accredidation, and the violent, and non violent crime rate is about the worst in Georgia.  Yep, I'd say this man had best take him, and his family on way from dare.  FWIW, is 'spect he would automtically increase his wealth about five fold if he went south of the border, and kept quiet about the money.

Georgia must not be a state that you can claim winnings anonymously.  Too bad.  That does explain the look of concern on his face in the picture.

Well, that is sort of quasi the line from the Georgia Lottery, but there is nothing on their web site saying the do or don't let you do anon, however there have been winners in the past that have claimed anonymously with LLCs and trusts.  It seems that it is good to get an attorney to deal with them on this point.  I think as long as you don't ask, then they sure aren't going to tell you about it.  But if you go about it the right way, it can be done.  I'm assuming that this fellow didn't know. Probably didn't understand the concept, and the lottery folks dang sure weren't going to tell him.

Is that all you have to do to win?  Stuff the ticket some where and forget about it for 6 months,  and accidently find it and its a big winner!
