Several store customers and clerk saw winning ticket, verified winning numbers
Apparent winner purchased ticket in Arizona but checked ticket in Maryland
Includes video report
A man, who appeared to be a construction or highway worker, walked into a Prince George's County, Maryland, Exxon Thursday afternoon and — according to witnesses — walked out a multi-multi-millionaire.
Employees and customers at Marlboro Village Exxon are still buzzing from the remarkable scene they witnessed this afternoon.
Surveillance cameras show a tall, bald man donned in a neon yellow outfit walk slowly in, in no particular rush. He digs deep into a pocket to pull out various lottery tickets. He checks to see if he won anything.
Seconds later, he starts pumping his arms. He gives the ticket, which he says he purchased in Arizona, to clerk Nagassi Ghebre, who says the winning numbers were on the Powerball ticket.
The apparent winner of one of the biggest jackpots of all time quickly turns to a customer for further verification.
If this one of the two national winners, this mystery man gets, after splitting the cash option with a winner from Missouri, nearly $200 million.
One customer said he heard the possible winner may be in the military.
According to witnesses the man did not buy the ticket in Maryland. He merely showed people what looked like a winning ticket.
According to an Arizona Lottery official, the ticket was purchased in a store near Scottsdale. The man would have to return to Arizona to turn in his winning ticket within 180 days.
VIDEO: Watch surveillance video of the man reacting to his huge win
Hmmmm......
I have family in Upper Marlboro. Is he a cousin?
If this guy really is the winner, this is some of the coolest lottery video ever.
WOW!!!! maybe he was visiting for there for the Holiday last week and bought his ticket on Sunday like I did. I know when my sister in-law came she bought tickets from Maryland and checked them here as well. So anything is possible.
This is what I seen on the News this morning. He must have been traveling through ARIZONA and purchase the ticket.
That is absolutely cool. Don't think I would be showing everybody for fear of getting robbed. Lol
IT GETS INTERESTINGER & INTERESTINGER!
wow its a long drive from maryland to arizona, safe drive home mystery man
plus he made a big mistake, he didnt sign the back of it, the moment he won.
Perhaps he was visiting the casino near Fountain Hills and stopped for a sandwich and a QP?
It will be interesting to see what guy who shows up in Arizona with winning ticket looks like.
6% tax on non residents. for arizona. he may want to move lol theres a 1.92M difference in state taxes. for him
I think you have to have lived there for 6 months to be considered a resident.
This guy is lucky he is built like an NFL linebacker because handing that ticket to the clerk and the other people has got to be one of the stupidest and most dangerous things I have ever seen done. Just announcing it was dangerous enough.
He's not wearing a mcdonalds uniform so im pretty convinced he won something.
What I love about this video is that we get to see the "real time" reaction of someone who just discovered that he won the one of the biggest lotteries in history. Priceless!
I have always wondered how I would react if I won.
I have a premeditated idea of what I'd do but what would I really do?
I think there's a law in Arizona that everybody has to wear a yellow vest.
Amazing Video
Gotta Love surveillance video every Business & home should have them
Congrats! to all the winners
with that
Always Sign, Copy & Check it before anything...
why is that rdg
"He gives the ticket, which he says he purchased in Arizona, to clerk Nagassi Ghebre"
And one of the guys in the video said he held the ticket too.
Been many out of state winners, but this might be the first across the country winner.
Ohh no! He is from Maryland? I hope he's not related to Mirlande Wilson.
Great video! Congrats to the winner. LOL, what a way to find out you are the winner.
Looks like a refinary worker. Maybe he's on the travel crew..
Road trip!
I have a question, since the man is from Maryland and won the lottery in Arizona, can he claim the winnings in Maryland or does he have to go back to Arizona to claim the winnings?
Has to go to Arizona within the next 180 days to claim it.
Welcome back Ridgerunner !
When I saw the yellow vest my first thought was, road construction or utility worker.
Thank you!
Lucky s.o.b.,shoulda been me!Oh well,maybe next time.
Actually I don't think it's cool at all that they released the video. It's bad enough there are cameras everywhere you look but to release without his consent should be illegal IMHO.
Whoops, I meant to say Maryland, not AZ, but it looked like every customer in that store had a yellow vest on.
Maybe that's a fashion trend in MD.
Thanks, haymaker.
Yeah, I thought those other guys in yellow who looked at his ticket were with him or knew him but maybe they were all from out of state on a construction project.
I bet the lottery winner could care less
Congrats to the lucky excited winner
I think you give consent to certain things when you buy the tickets. Images being one of them.....
Very cool video....... Hope its not a prank........
Im guessing your statement is because he is black and the other chick was black that lied for publicity.so now you ignorantly think all black people are liars about winning the lottery.we will never know if you would have made that statement had the color of his skin been white.smh.
So your saying that all McDonald's workers are black........
...But Im sure the moment he realized he won..he was so overtaken with joy..that he wasnt thinking clear.I hope he doesnt get killed.Linebacker body or not.Bullets penetrate iron.I would remain anonymous and hopefully when I win can control myself but I never check my tickets in the store.fear of having that kind of attention causing reaction...anyway great video...the other ticket holders didnt waste anytime claiming their money..I wouldve been in Tallahassee Thursday morning as soon as they opened the door. I love to see people win.ALL people..I hope I win one day.I'm frugal so I would take the annuity instead of the lumpsum..
No Im not saying that.not sure if you are being cute.but I will keep this dialogue short.we all know a few months ago the Black female that worked at Mcdonalds and claim she found the ticket lost the ticket the ticket was hers wasnt the pool etc etc..you know the story..I am so tired of people trying to make light or cover up people racist/ignorant behavior. The person that made the comment Im sure he or she knows exactly what they were saying/implying..had that been a bald headed white male..there wouldnt have been any reference to the mcdonald situation.where is the correlation?no where in the video does it say a man walks in with a pool of construction workers to check their tickets.oh the correlation made by the poster was because the man is black just like the mcdonalds worker that lied(who was in a pool unlike this guy)...im done
McDonald's is a multi-national employer of folks of all ages, colors and backgrounds.
Many are students, some retired, others work just part-time.
Management positions pay some of the most attractive compensation packages in the industry.
To infer that RedStang was being racist by his comment, is a little ridiculous.
I think it would have been more realistic to suggest that the post was condescending toward minimum wage workers, but to extend that to racism is a stretch.
your privacy is no longer private once you leave your house, buy the way you need new slippers

He could just chock it up to member appreciation day.
And just think of all the good Karma that would be generated, not to mention the P.E.F!
I would think for some achievement it may happen. Perhaps recruiting 100 new LP members per month
Really..ugh some people are so oblivious to the truth...really..I guess those of you that are chiming in just want to say something because maybe you feel as though you dont want to be affiliated with racism..well..it still exist..it is what it is...a stretch..minimum wage workers..the man had on construction gear.they make darn good money..ugh..why am i responding to u..smh..lol..good night...toward minimum wage workers HA..so are you now implying all black people make minimum wage..it was a racially driven comment that the guy made and now you are fishing for straws to down play the comment.fine... live in your fantasy world.I live in the real world where racism still exist. just make sure you arent one(provided you arent racist) instead of attempting to make excuses for someone elses ignorance.the end.
Happy for the ALL the winners
You must be a politician, lawyer or publicist.
You know the art of spinning everything to suit your agenda.
Im happy too....... Now can I have a happy meal.....
I think Obama worked a stint at McDonald's, and look at his job now.
Therefore McDonald's is an EOE.
This is all Ronnie's fault!
If he had won the Jackpot in Arizona, I could have been spending this time filling his inbox with pleas for cash instead of debating with delusional wonders!
do you want it for a boy or for a girl.
More likely a lifelong "victim" in search of things to be "offended" about.
Don't be a sexist you racist!
Boys meal, please.....
McDonalds is sexist......
I would be happy to share too........ Take that to the bank my friend.......
McDonald's is sexy!
you right! sorry my bad
Just need some new windshield wipers for my pickup truck.
maybe mcdonalds should be uniSEX
This time under a MICROSCOPE
Your forgiven my dear.
Im share wit psykomo toooo.... New Wipers all around.....
Newsflash: Donald Lawson is crediting Big Mac's special sauce for his win!
Tell that to the women who didn't know she won $23million dollars, I know
she's glad they released the video of her!! lol
WTF are you talking about. Don't you remember what happened with the last (Maryland) winners who claimed they all won. The post title says Apparent Winner, not confirmed.
I thought if you signed it, you couldn't clain it in a trust or LLC.
Rational people familiar with the story would recognize that it was a joke based on the MCDonald's employee who falsely claimed to have won a share of a record jackpot, and had nothing to do with the race (or other characteristics) of either person.
That you assumed it was based on race suggests to me that it's for one of three reasons:
- You're the one who's racist
- You're black (or some other minority) and a bit too paranoid about racism
- You're just an all-around idiot
Either way, it's your issue, not his.
If somebody's giving stuff away I could use a new truck for my windshield wipers.
Oh, staaaaahhhp. It's nowhere near as nefarious as you'd like to believe it is. Here's RedStang's original comment:
"He's not wearing a mcdonalds uniform so im pretty convinced he won something."
It was merely a backhanded swipe at crazy-pants Mirlande Wilson. In case you haven't noticed, making fun of her has become a bit of a favorite pastime among LP members. Just because he didn't mention her by name doesn't make the reference any less obvious.
EDIT: Aaaaahhh, KY Floyd beat me to it. But that makes my point even clearer; it's so obvious that multiple people have noticed it and pointed it out.
You give consent by filling out the claim form and claiming the prize from the lottery. In most states that consent allows the lottery to use your name and likeness for publicity. There's a slim chance it might even allow the store that sold you the ticket to do so. It definitely doesn't require your consent to let a store in another state do so just because you came in and checked the numbers.
That said, the guy was in a public place and had no reasonable expectation of privacy, and anyone who took his picture or shot video is free to display it for non-commercial uses, including editorial use, which is what was done in this case.
It was still a lousy thing for the store to do. The store selling awinning ticket may be required to submit any security footage to the lottery, but releasing it to the public is strictly their own choice. If I were to win, one of the first things on my to do list would be call the store and tell the manager that there was a fat tip waiting if nobody ran their mouth about who they thought might have won.
Just saw a news story where they tracked the winner and his coworkers down to their Va DOT workplace. He is back on the job? Can he get a flight to Arizona? Thats amazing. My daughter says she shops at that same convenience store in Upper Marlboro. Guess he is not a relative. Darn!
That's the power of CCTv Camera, everything is captured...good thing the man is still focused when he learned that he his tickets won that huge amount...
You're the man!!!
I wonder when the winner will turn in the ticket
Probably hours before it empires
Oh goodness, I hope not!! lol
Haha, yeah but it can happen!
It's weird I'm getting impatient and it's not even my ticket lol, I
just want this winning ticket turned in already!!
Empires?
yep! You read that right, empires!!
Somebody turn in that ticket!!
Maybe he means before it winds up in new york, the empire state.
empires=expires
That would be my guess.
Yeah, I spelled it wrong, sorry about that
yea, IF this is the winner - this is really *really* cool to see the reaction!
So ypu plan on paying people to NOT talk about you at the liquor store??
Seems really strange that you would call the liquor store and say "I did NOT win that lottery game"
This guy does not look black at all........
Oh and its NOT a QP........ What a bitter disappointment.........
If he is the winner I sure do hope he is consulting with a financial adviser & an attorney.....
Thats not the same winning ticket photo that thrifty posted.
That was the MO ticket.
I just checked the Arizona lottery website & it says the winner /s have not come forward....
Paul Horner is the name of the guy who won a share of the $640m MM jackpot earlier this year.
Ok, so that was the homeless guy I guess?
I wonder how he got a ticket that says Wed. Nov. 28, 2012??
I thought the winners came from Illinois Maryland & Kansas.....
It must be photo-shopped ..........
I just found the photo and posted it..... lol. lol......... It looked real to me...........
Paul Horner is a big time finance guy who lives in Maryland.
I haven't heard or read any updates recently about the Arizona winner.
As for the guy caught on tape? hmmmm
I think the guy caught on tape is a hoax...... It seems like its getting real popular to pretend win......
Yeah, the other ticket was 5 QPs and the winner was on line "C"
The guy on Face book got 2 million hits and his ticket didn't even look close to being real......
Most of those people do not know what a legitimate ticket looks like.
Even if they were suspicious they probably employed the JUST IN CASE approach.
I'm surprised the lottery doesn't crack down on prankster, but maybe it free press for them.....
I wonder if the guy in Fountain Hills even knows he won?????
He could be on some exotic vacation somewhere and the ticket is in his glove box..... lol. lol.
Relax Ronnie!
I know a guy who pulled a prank on Amercia for 4 years!
I think there should be a club started for people who pull the fake win dances.
Let the club be dubbed the "Fabulous Flashy Fakers"
lol. lol. lol. 4 down and 4 to go.........................
4 more until that prank is over.
I like the sound od Fat Pink Pig club...........
I wonder if he will write a book and admit it was all a prank........
I would think faking a big win could be like causing the Cubs to lose the World Series.....
Or maybe the "Sweet Swine Swindlers".
And what, exactly, would you like them to do?
I'm sure they love the free advertising, did,nt say a thing about the fake maryland winner.
40 lashes minus one with a cat o nine tails and then death by crucifiction..............
Give them a free QP, then they can do the real victory dance!
Nothing so far about the face book guy either...... Remember how them laughed about Miss Fat Pig?
A QP and a dream is all it takes................
I dont have an exrta $50 bucks to play my PB wheel tonight..... What are the odds/........
If I knew what the bonus number was going to be again tonight I would buy a few QPs........
The bonus number will be 9.
No, 33
the 9 is cold, like frozen.
I have a feeling I can get 4 QPs and match ZERO numbers on all 4 lines...........
That would be my second choice.
Both numbers are on my Maddog's Powerball Challenge 2-nite.
Thanks I forget to do the challenge, going there now.
Frozen means it's ready to be thawed or microwaved just in time for 2-nites drawing.
OH, nevermind , did it yesterday and then forget about it.
Thanks for tossing me a freeze pop...... I just went to the local P.E.F. device and succored a ticket...
Posting early messes me up too. I had to go back like 5 pages on my famous thread to find my PB picks.
Do some number combinations have better odds?
The Beatles actually dedicated a song to number "9".
I was called Revolution 9.
In that case..... I'm feeling much BETTER about the selection.........
Ronnie316,
I hope for your sake, Mc56 is right about the microwave,
since the PB went to $2 the 9 has not come out, in fact only 3 #s are worse, the 15-17-31
What does p.e.f. mean ?
Careful haymaker, your beginning to generate some negative P.E.F
Yeah, the bonus "10" is frozen in time on the MM game and I somehow got started on playing it......
It means Thrifty "is the universe"... lol. lol. lol.
At LottoBoners recommendation I normally run like a crazy person from frozen numbers........
Its what flows from the teat of the device.............
Now that's a sexy looking teat!
Yes I know. I often succle at the Positive Energy Flow teat.........
10 was drawn on 10/20/12
still wondering WTH p.e.f. means ?
Do you sanitize the teat before suckling.
If you have to ask what P.E.F. means, then it doesn't really matter anyways.
No but occasionally there's no draw and I have to call the attendant for assistance........
That's right, between the two of us we can usually get that sucker flowing again.....
Perhaps hay wants to also draw from the deep wells of flowing winning essences??? Can this even be accomplished without the sweet device protruding from the front of those vending machines????
I have to call it quits. lol. May the Positive Energy Flow be with each and every one of us tonight.
OK, now that I know what p.e.f. means, this translates to
" negative positive energy flow, no ?
Would be extremely difficult!
Perhaps a P.E.F. adaptor could be devised.
That might work if it was used by an early adopter.
Excellent! Your keeping your positive options open and receptive for even more P.E.F
Your a fast learner hay.
I think a plumber can always get things flowing again. LMAO
Well yeah, now that I know what p.e.f. means.
Plumbers Rock!
You think that he was one of those 1 million winners instead
I don't remember the clerk in the video scanning the ticket,
everybody just looked it.
That's possible Nikki, I still will be happy with $1 million.....
I don't think you can scan an out of state lottery ticket..... Correct me if I am wrong....
I'm curious myself. If you buy a powerball ticket in Tennessee and then went to another state like for example Arizona would the clerk be able to scan a powerball ticket from any state or just that particular state in which it is bought?
I managed to get a winning number on 3 of the lines....... Much BETTER than I excepted........
I believe the ticket was purchased after the fact, and was brought in as a joke. Perhaps a dare.......
No it cant..... But perhaps in the New Socialist States of America that can all change.......
If I won that much money I would go back to work until it was official While I was getting everything in order like attorney.
It's technologically possible, but since it's not practical I doubt you'd ever see them make it a reality. Instead of just searching a state's own database it would require access to every state's database. That's a lot of extra overhead for the extremely small percentage of out of state tickets that people would want to scan. Then when the scan said it was a winner, you'd still juts have piece of paper that was worthless until you got it back tp the state that issued it.
Real or not, the video in this case makes that seem like money well spent while I go about arranging for my quiet disappearance.
I believe the gentleman that was caught on surveillance at the gas station in Maryland is most likely the true winner. He showed up at the station on Thursday in the middle of the day which makes it unrealistic that he purchased an Arizona PB ticket that morning before heading to the airport to catch a flight to Maryland. The timeline just doesn't fit for someone trying to pull of a joke. I seriously doubt he flew in cross country on Thursday only to immediately go to work.
He most likely is meeting with different attorneys and financial advisors prior to claiming his share. From what I read, a lottery winner in Arizona has the option of remaining anonymous .
Have you every thought of making a quiet disappearance WITHOUT winning the lottery........
Its a joke and his co-workers were in on it.............. No way this guy is the winner....
Its Miss Fat Pink Piggy all over again.......
He is likely an ex WacArnolds worker........
I will take the 1/4 million in tomorrow nights MM draw.............
I wll take $2 for the Megaball!
So will I.... on all 66 of my tickets.........
You can retire your plunger!
My plunger goes with me...... Even when its retired......
What a shame and an awful lot of planning if it indeed was a joke. He sure had me fooled as I couldn't fathom someone going to that extent. Doctoring a local ticket is one thing but to get one several thousand miles away within a matter of hours takes the cake.
The guy never gave out his name so his fame will be short lived. I am just perplexed as to why the state worker and his colleagues would go through all this?
If I go it's going to be rich or kicking and screaming.
Im thinking of driving out to the store where the ticket was sold and looking around to see if they have posted any signs or if anyone is still talking about who the winner might be..... I could take some photos as well...
Of course if I drive out there I will have to stop at the casino with $40. and try my luck.
Last time I was out there I hit $900. on a slot.......... lol. lol.
So, did you make the drive ?
sounds like your casino luck would be a 2nd reason,
a 3rd reason is, its always nice to get out of the city and drive the desert, how far is it ?
At what casino did you win the $900 ?
Arizona winner has made claim but prefer to stand unknown for now.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/ariz-lottery-winner-claims-half-588m-17906819
So are we to understand that he/she turned in the valid signed ticket, completed the paperwork, but will collect the check at a later date when he/she is better prepared?
This recent behavior seems inconsistent with the guy on camera who was practically begging people to participate in his Show and Tell.
Of course sound advice of experts could have settled him down. Hmmmm....
The guy was a hoax...... Just as suspected.......
Thanks RJOh, I was waiting for a breaking story.........
No..... I didn't take the drive as work got in the way.
Ft McDowell casino is practically inside the Fountain Hills city limits.
Indian casinos number about 6-8 around the metro Phoenix area, and new ones keep opening.
Awesome that the story finally broke. Thanks RJOh........
I bet they be rich white folk from Fountain Hills...........
You have the option of reading the story and coming to your own conclusion or waiting for Arizona to release more information as soon as they have verified every thing.
Don't assume the state worker and his colleagues tried to trick anyone into thinking he won.
The media, not him or his coworkers released store footage thinking he might have won the other
half of the jackpot. As you stated he never gave out his name or searched for any kind of publicity
unlike that McD's worker.
So we'll have to wait and see who the winner is once he comes forward.
You mean the beautiful and talented Ms. Mirlande Wilson.
Actually, I thought the man in the yellow work outfit was sincere and legitimate. Someone else stated that it was a hoax.
You are correct that the media glorified this scenario and not the HWY worker which is why it just didn't make any sense to me.
Ms. Wilson was a clown seeking her 15 minutes of fame. The HWY worker was the total opposite as he never alerted the media or demand a press conference with an attorney.
He reacted in the same manner most normal folks would and not in the calm and collected manner which many here claim (splitting a 588Million jackpot will unleash any self control one may have).
Just heard on the news that the construction/HWY worker seen on the surveillance tape is a Maryland resident who earlier this year was charged with fraud. What is it with Maryland and these folks who somehow feel entitled to a jackpot they they obviously didn't win
Hi All,
I read you comments on a daily basis and find them very amusing. I faithfully go to this website everyday:) Just wanted to add that the winner is in his 30s and married. Clearly, not the MD gentleman. I think it was the media's fault for hyping this up and possibly putting this man life in danger. he very well could have one $1M and that's enough to excite anyone.
So, do you think the new winner was already wealthy because homes in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are in the millions?
maybe they were already rich but it doesn't mean anything because poor and middle class people win the jackpot too.
