When Glinda Salgado heard that the winner of a $1 million Mega Millions lottery ticket purchased it at her family store in Herndon, she was excited.
She never imagined it was her own ticket.
The drawing, held on March 14, revealed that a winning ticket was sold at her store, Elden Market & Deli — but nearly two weeks went by with no winner coming forward.
Then, Salgado realized she hadn't checked her own ticket — and discovered the winner was actually herself.
"I didn't think it was me, so I didn't check my ticket," she said.
Salgado's ticket matched the first five numbers in the March 14 Mega Millions drawing — but, since she spent an extra $1 for the Megaplier, she actually won a total of $3 million.
The winning numbers were 7, 20, 40, 54, and 69, with Mega Ball number 12. The only number she didn't match was the Mega Ball number.
Lottery officials presented Salgado, who is from Chantilly, with the check for her winnings on Monday at the store. She said she picked four of her numbers based on numbers that are important to her, and two others at random. Had she matched that final number, she would have won a Mega Millions jackpot estimated at $353 million.
The odds of matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions are 1 in 18,492,204.
Salgado says she doesn’t have any immediate plans for her winnings.
Some people might say the store, located at 1411 Elden St., is in a lucky area — it's just a block or two away from the Giant store where a $107 million Mega Millions jackpot was won in 2011.
Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m.
Good a.m. all! Ha...I would be excited too!
...jejejeje probably now that she won, she'll be watching the lottery machine and be buying more just to hit the big one!
I bet her store will be going up for sale in the not so distant future.
I doubt it, but then I figgure she'll probably end up taking longer and longer vacations
I doubt that, I think she'll be watching her lottery machine like a hawk to win the big one.
...seriousley, I am guessing she'll be getting more inventory since she's expecting that her sales would go up due to her winning the lottery.
Congrats to the lucky gal, enjoy!
Yawn...I'm still sleepy, it's only 6:30 a.m. here jejejeje

Jejeje...just tired of talking 'bout monies...
Who Knew? There is no law against owner's playing the lottery is there?
Would she also collect the agent's bonus for selling the winning ticket ?
as long she no part of Patel scam enterprise... sounds legit to me . congrats to her
No law or contractual agreement with the lottery against a retailer playing the lottery. The business entity that is listed as the retailer that sold the ticket is certainly entitled to any lottery bonus that goes along with that winning ticket. If she is sole owner of the store, then essentially she would get the bonus, which I think she should.
Congratulations Glinda Salgado Spend it WISELY
Really retire, Goteki54, as Glinda would only walk away with about $1.6M after-taxes?
The rich people are getting morw rich while the poor arw more poor. That is how god are doing. I hate God!!!!
That mega plier thing is the best thing to happen to Mega Millions. Glinda will tell you that much. Congrats Glinda
Congratulation Glinda
I Agree Duckman.
congrats
Every time I hear about a store owner winning big on a lottery ticket that was bought at their store, red flags goes up. The store owner could have obtained that ticket supposititiously by spurious means. There shoud be a rule in the lottery that states owners of stores that sells lottery tickets would be precluded from buying lottery tickets at their store.
when I saw the title of the article I thought it was going to be another Patel lol, congrats to the winner!
God doesn't have anything to do with rich or poor. You hating God over something like that isn't too smart. But then, I can tell from the way you write that you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
I really wish people who buy lottery tickets would check them. Why buy a ticket and think "it's not me" and not check your numbers. Stupid.
there will be more
When the clerk hands me the ticket they always smile and say "It's not me", but i check it anyways.
Yes there will be more jackpots. Lord V's emoticon could give me a headache.
This is not the first time ive heard of store employes, buying the winning tickets.Good for u congrats. Where is chantilly?
You do not trust the lottery industry.
Is it stupid to play the lottery?
Just,,, maybe your attitude towards a higher power could be affecting your outcome???
Just a thought.....
i check mines asap. but can't win at all =(

If you hate Him in this life, you're gonna hate Him even more in your next one.
Better think about it.
