Sunday, April 6 marks the start of the Wisconsin Lottery's first new lottery game in over 10 years.

The new $2 lotto game called "5 Card Cash" is modeled after the popular poker-themed games found in several state and provincial lotteries throughout the United States and Canada.

While most Wisconsin Lottery games either have the opportunity to win instantly, or in the nightly drawing, 5 Card Cash offers both.  Players will be able to win one of several instant prizes at the time the ticket is purchased, and tickets are also eligible to win a prize in the drawing that evening.

"It's the best of both worlds," said Michael Edmonds, Lottery Director. "It's a chance to win during the day when you buy your ticket and another chance to win that night."

5 Card CashThe new $2 game works like this: When players buy their ticket, five card symbols are printed on it. If the five card symbols include a pair of 8's or better or a higher winning hand, like three of a kind, a flush or a full house, they win instantly. The top prize on the instant portion is $5,000 for having a royal flush.

For the nightly drawing, the lottery will draw five random card symbols from the 52 total cards. A player then wins if they match at least two of the five cards drawn. If they match all five, the player wins the top prize of $250,000.

"We're excited about it — it's the Lottery's first new Wisconsin-only lotto game in over ten years," said Edmonds.

"5 Card Cash" tickets are Quick Pick only, meaning that no playslips are needed. The drawings will be conducted by the Lottery each night between 9pm and 10pm. Winning cards will be published on Lottery Post's Wisconsin Lottery Results page soon after each drawing.

The overall odds for winning a prize on "5 Card Cash" are 1:2.9. The odds of hitting the $5,000 instant top prize are 1:649,740. The odds of winning the $250,000 prize are 1:2,598,960.

Poor Wisconsin, they lost the game, and now they have to put up with this crappy game. How much can one endure in one weekend?.

It just started. Let the players decide if it's good or not.

Fact is, states are looking for new and different games to bring out, and charging $2 to increase revenue. If they don't try new games the old ones get very stale and players lose interest.

Two bucks for two draws does'nt seem like a bad deal, but with most games going 2$, it's becoming quite expensive and some players can only choose one. I'm think we'll see State lotterys go to 2$ soon.

I think you're right. The states might collude and raise the price of tickets to $2 or more and do it all at once to make sure that people will not be tempted to drive to neighboring states to play there. I need to wean myself off of the online games like I did scratch tickets. Idk how though Disapprove

              It's a futile effort.

I don't like that it's Quick Pick only, just used to playslips I guess.

They have this game in Maryland.  Be warned that it is equally addictive as scratch off tickets.
