SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Savannah, Georgia, resident realized this week that it was no trick when he found a forgotten lottery ticket that led to a major treat: a $1 million prize.
David Bramble, 42, matched the first five numbers from the July 9 Powerball drawing, winning a $1 million prize.
Georgia Lottery representatives presented Bramble with an oversized check Wednesday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Savannah.
His lucky lottery ticket went unnoticed for three months.
"I had these tickets that were sitting in my car," said Bramble, who claimed his prize Oct. 21.
Publix Super Market #1186, 11701 Abercorn Street in Savannah, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
He was at the grocery store checking the tickets when he realized he'd won.
"I thought that I must've won a chunk of change. I didn't know that it was that much change," Bramble said. "I lost my composure for a couple of minutes in the store."
A registered nurse, Bramble feels "awesome" over his windfall. He and his wife, Tanyka, have four children and have not yet made plans for their winnings.
Winning numbers from the July 9 Powerball drawing were: 9, 25, 42, 55, and 57, with Powerball number 14.
Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $142 million to a single annuity winner.
And he's not the only $1 million winner in Savannah that lottery officials announced this week.
A winning Georgia Lottery instant ticket worth $1 million was sold in Savannah. Chevron, located at 5009 Waters Ave., sold a winning ticket worth $1 million from the $10 Million Cash Spectacular instant game.
The winner, Robert Miley of Savannah, claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Savannah.
Congratulations. Just checked my stash in the car, not even a $2 winner this round....
Enjoy the sense of monetary freedom!
Congratulation Mr. Bramble
I got to start forgettheting to check my tickets enjoy your big win Mr Bramble
I have considered buying a ticket or two, and deliberately not checking them, but stashing them some weird place.
Hope the winners enjoy.
This seems like the best way to win a big jackpot.
My restlessness would never allow me to go a day without checking them but it seems to work for others so I might do it one day
but it is kinda risky to have the tickets in your car and forget about them. You could unknowingly bring your car to the repair shop and lose big
Why are these " recently found" lottery tickets always in the car? Just where in the car are they stashed? If they in the glove compartment with all the other crap people store in that tiny space- its no wonder they don't find them until months later.l mean how often do people look in their glove compartments- daily, l think not!
So where are they stashed, under the driver's seat, the side door pocket, under the mat? Saying you found it " in the car" is vague. l would sure like to know David, so that readers like myself can " avoid at all costs" placing our lottery tickets in these " mystery spots.
Congratulations Nonetheless-
I've got about 5 weeks worth of tickets sitting on top of my fridge that I haven't checked yet.....lol
On top of the fridge huh? Reminds me of a female lottery winner years ago who took the winning ticket and put it in a ziplock bag and stashed it in the freezer for * l think months. The catch was this: she presented it to her future husband l think * as a wedding gift. Come to think of it, l will attempt a Google search on this one to refresh my memory. In the fridge mightwin- not on top.
What a wonderful story to start my day,I love these kind of people, seeing them happy, having a future.
NICE!
Love those forgotten tickets. Congrats to the winner.
the old 'buy lotto tickets & foget'em in the car trick' eh?
Congrats
note to self: buy a bunch of QPs & leave them in car
Congrats to Mr. Bramble on his win! May he have the best future with his new fortune
Maybe the old paper the lottery used would be ok, but I walked out with a ticket when it was raining and it got a couple drops on it I didn't think anything of it. When I went to check my tickets the ink was smeared and the ticket was stuck together.I had to carefully pry it apart and the last line of numbers tore a hole in it along with the bar code being torn in the middle. ......my first thought was if I won a decent amount, I hope the michigan lottery wouldn't give me sh*t about not being able to verify the ticket. No moisture at all, keep em dry lol
Thanks, mightwin, for this rainy day tickets results feedback. I'll continue being zealous to keep my lottery tickets dry!
Maringoman, now you're on the right track!
Thus far, we've learned, from reading these stories of lottery 1st and 2nd prize winners, that apparently the 'lottery fairies' prefer we gambling people display we are "risk takers." Consequently, we should display this via gathering at least one month of unchecked online or scratch lottery tickets in: magic cookie jar inside our house, magic desk drawer inside our house or place of employment, or in center console of our magic box with wheels [vehicle]!
What is clear is that we should by no means fester remorse/anxiety regarding CHRONICALLY not checking these lottery tickets! What is not always clear from these big lottery prize winners is whether we should be placing something on top of these unchecked tickets each time they [nonchalantly] get added to the previous batch.
Fellow members, am I missing any additional gleaned winner's practice guidelines? If so, please add below. Thanks & cheers!
Thanks for the heads up MW- my advice, always carry an umbrella when rainclouds form overhead.
I love seeing these kinds of people win too. By "these kinds" I am referring to people that can clearly
speak and understand the English language. Yes i know that is not a prerequisite of winning the lottery
but it should be
That's gotta be a nice surprise :)
