A resident of the Siberian city of Novosibirsk has won 350 million rubles (US$4.7 million) — Russia's biggest-ever lottery prize, the state-run lottery Gosloto said in a statement Monday.
The name of the lucky winner is unknown because he has yet to claim the prize, Yulia Gavrishova, a spokeswoman for Stoloto, the distributor of state lotteries in Russia, told government daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta.
The man bought his lucky ticket in a Novosibirsk retail outlet.
The ticket cost 1,800 rubles (US$24.35). The six lucky numbers were 1, 7, 11, 13, 42, and 45, according to the statement.
The previous lottery prize record was set by a resident of Nizhny Novgorod, who won 202 million rubles (US$2.7 million) in 2014, according to Rossiiskaya Gazeta.
The record Russian lottery jackpot is approximately $1,581,700,000 less than the record US Powerball jackpot, won by 3 tickets in January.
I didn't know Russia has a lottery Congratulations to the winner/s.
Congratulations to the unknown winner. Now you can move to a warmer climate.
Congrats to the lucky winner.
I wonder if the lottery in Russia allows the winner to remain anonymous.
I would never purchase a lottery ticket for $24.00. Ridiculous.
I'm not sure the ticket price is correct in the article, thelotter sells 6 lines for $20 and they often charge 2.5x so more correct would be $8? Lost in translation?
Edit. One line cost 100 rubles, so the winner must have bought a ticket with 18 lines.
In Russia, the lottery jackpot claims you!
If he says "nyet" to going public as winner of this lottery I wonder if they'll send him to Siberia. Oh wait he's already there!
A picture of the winner.
I hope the Russian lottery allows winners to remain anonymous, I wouldn't fancy my chances in Russia, if everyone is that gangster society.
