A six-figure prize in one drawing

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Virginia man was lucky 24 times in one drawing, with his Pick 4 number combination pulling off a $120,000 win.
It's common for the payout to be larger in Pick 4 drawings that yield number combinations with the same four numbers, but one Virginia man managed to rake in $120,000 all for himself.
Dennis Fears won the top prize in the Virginia Lottery's Pick 4 night drawing on August 25 24 times. Every single ticket held the same four-digit combination of 8-8-8-8.
Matching all Pick 4 winning numbers in exact order with a $1 wager will yield a $5,000 top prize, but Fears ended up walking away with $120,000 in winnings instead.
In total, players across the state won a whopping $8.98 million in the drawing.
Number combinations with the same four digits are often called "quads" and are a popular choice among lottery players, which is why the prize payout is so large.
He purchased all his winning tickets at the 7-Eleven on Portsmouth Boulevard in Chesapeake.
Fears told the Lottery that he doesn't have any immediate plans for his winnings.
The odds of matching all four numbers in a Pick 4 drawing are 1 in 10,000. Players can view a complete list of odds and prize payouts for Pick 4 by visiting the Prizes and Odds page.
Pick 4 drawings take place twice a day, once at 1:59 pm EST and again at 11:00 pm EST. Players may choose their own four numbers or select the Quick Pick (Easy Pick) option to allow the computer to choose numbers for you.

Another example of someone creating a jackpot. One of these days someone is going to win a $20 straight bet on a pick 5 combo.
Exactly! that person studied the parameters of the game. I knew the 3 and 4 prize wins are fixed amounts. But thought it would have some kind of "liability clause" to where it can't pay out, a very large amount like that, especially to one person.
I play Pick 4 from time to time but have never won anything. I have tried the different rundowns but nothing has worked. I am not the kind of player who spends hundreds of dollars buying tickets daily or weekly. In my state I have tried purchasing 8888 or 4444 or 5555 and they are always sold out. Is there a strategy that predicts the next winning number without buying tons of tickets?

lol, he probably has been playing that same number with that same method for? several years.
Probably saw a slight trigger for it from the 23rd drawing. It pulled 9388 with the fireball being 8. 9 can be dropped down one to 8 and 3 is supposed to be the mirror to 8.
It's also possible that that number is just a favorite of theirs, too.
Not to mention, the related news links show that buying large amounts of tickets can give you huge payouts in VA.

Yes probably buying a large amount of tickets did pay off for the guy but the question remains how much money did he really spend over the years to win the 120K ? Unless there is a special strategy to playing Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5. Players spend hundreds of dollars weekly trying to win, $500, $5000, or $50K. At some point the player over time, has spent that kind of money just to win that money. I would love to find out if there is a way to predict the next night Pick 4 winning number and to only have to buy one $1.00 ticket. Then it would truly be worth the purchase.
no, even he used the same method for a year that's only 8,760 he would have to use that same method for over 13 1/2 years to come close to spending 120k. Nobody is going to do that.
