He won last Friday's $20 million Super 7 jackpot, and intends to indulge his love of skiing and snowboarding instead of trying to get a job in the business world - at least for now. The 28-year-old Loyalist College student, who lives in Belleville, had the sole winning ticket for the Jan. 16 Super 7 draw. He was in Toronto today to claim his winnings. McDonald is taking a Business Sales course and when asked about whether he would continue, he replied: "Probably not!" "Up to this point, the biggest thing I had to think about was my assignment that is due this week. This is very exciting and really changes things." He has sought investment advice and will "be putting the money somewhere safe and not rushing into anything," he said. McDonald also plans to hit the hills. "I love to snowboard and ski so I will follow the snow for a little while," he said. "I couldn't believe my eyes. It was - and still is - a surreal experience," McDonald told staff at Ontario Lottery & Gaming Coporation. "I never in a million years expected to win." He is the youngest of five children. He has two brothers and two sisters. "I look forward to making others happy,'' he said. "Our family is very close." Should be $15m-$16m in US dollars, lump-sum and tax-free. BTW, this is the game PA Super-6 was modeled on...except Super-7 dventually was changed to allow players to select all their numbers. | | |

Some jurisdictions in Canada do not allow players to select all their numbers. For example, in Ontario, you can select the first set and the second and third set are quick picks. Good luck,

Mark, Super 7 is a Canadian lottery and therefore tax free. Mr. Shrub has nothing to do with it. Good luck,

Two things wrong with that:
- It's in Canada, so the US wouldn't take any taxes
- If anything, GWB is trying to reduce Federal Income taxes, so if that person did live in the US they would be enjoying more of their winnings! (i.e., spending more of their prize on things that they want/need -- in the process stimulating the economy -- rather than giving it to the government.)

Jake: I thought that all Super-7 players could choose all their numbers. Imagine if some Mega Millions states required the Mega Ball to be quick-picked...NY and TX do not allow the cash option to be selected after winning (only before). | | |

This is one of the cool things about LP, Todd could have easily erased my mini-rant, but didn't. This is why LP continues to get my vote for the diamond web awards. In reply, the view is much different on the front lines... take a piece of paper and write down the names of as many people that you know personally, then add them up... When NAFTA first reared it's ugly head in my own life, it did not just single me out. That number from the people you know, subtract it from 6,000... that's how many people that Agere systems decided to kick to the curb in favor of cheap offshore labor...6,000, many who have worked for 20 or more years and have families to support and health care requirements that will now not be met. I am sure the CEO didn't know 6,000 people either, but he sure was able to hurt 6,000 people in one fell swoop. that's just 1 company...
