Multi-million-dollar lottery winner Barry Funk is a man of his word. Twenty years ago, buddies Funk and Michael Hawryshko promised each other that if one of them ever won the lottery, he'd give the other a million bucks. Funk, a flooring contractor, and his wife Patty Gau, a high school science teacher, won $10.8 million in last Friday's Super 7 lottery draw. When claiming the prize yesterday, Funk announced he and his wife will give $1 million to Hawryshko and his wife Susan. Funk and Gau's winnings are from a $32.5-million jackpot that was split three ways. "Just to be able to help somebody feels good, but it's been that way for 20 years," Funk said yesterday.

Heh.. kinda shows that there are a few honorable people left in this world these days. Even such a promise made 20 years ago. o.o ... insert witty quote here ...
... My behavior and apperance betrays my age ... but I'm good enough ...
besides, people in person would still be afraid to talk to meh, even if I had millions ^^;

I wonder how that works. Guy wins $10.8 million and pays all the taxes on it, then gives $1 million to his friend, who pays taxes on it again? I hope they found a better way to transfer the funds.

Super 7 is a Canadian lottery. No taxes on lottery winnings. No taxes on gifts.

Thats the way it should be in the U.S.A. Taxes has been paid on the money that you buy lotto tickets with .I dont see the Gov. giving you money to buy the tickets with.

Thanks. I agree, lottery winnings are doubly taxed, first when they take 40 cents or more each dollar when you buy a ticket, then when you win you must pay 33% or so of your jackpot back to the government. They shouldn't be allowed to have it both ways. Once again, Canada is more enlighted than the primitive, greedy USA.

Heh, at least if you are going to tax it. Tax it only once. I reckoned long ago if I actually won 10 Mil I;d come away with about 2 of it after Child support, my fianceee (been with her 10 years and we play equally so we split down the middle), my Mom, my family and my two children and of course taxes and the penalty for taking it all at once. I would sit those two in the bank after hacking off 100k to pay bills and get a Brand spanking new 2004 vette. Oh yeah we have to go back to school to learn to manage large sums of money.
