Members of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corp. board of directors voted unanimously to join the 26-state Powerball, an Urbandale, Iowa-based game with a jackpot that has risen as high as $315 million. The District of Columbia and U.S. Virgin Islands also are members. "Powerball is a highly visible, recognized brand name," lottery chief Rebecca Paul told the board before the vote. Board members chose Powerball over Mega Millions, an 11-state game based in Atlanta that Paul helped set up while director of the Georgia Lottery. Two states bordering Tennessee - Kentucky and Missouri - already participate in Powerball, in which drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday night. The Powerball jackpot starts at $10 million and grows each week until there's a winner. On Monday, the Powerball was estimated at $26 million, according to the game's Web site. There are no estimates on how much revenue Powerball will generate for the state, according to Paul, but she did say that 30 cents of every dollar spent on the multistate game will go toward college scholarships for qualifying Tennessee students. This is not surprising. Obviously Paul is trying to stick it to her old "friends" in GA after the way the treated her on her departure. Also, now that Powerball will have 27 lotteries, isn't it time to bump the starting jackpot to $15 Million?

i'd love to see the starting jkpt at 13 or 15M but don't let 'em tamper with the game setup...ie. keep it 53 white and 42 red. ... the lottery never fails to surprise!

I think they will keep at 53 white and increase the PB to either 47 or 49.

yes, the 5/53 + 1/42 setup is just fine, already hard enough... I'm happy with the 10M minimum that I'm not winning... I would much rather see a bump in the lower tier prizes (where I hang out ;-) ) Welcome Tennessee to the madness! Playing more than one ticket per game is betting against yourself.

i think it all depends on how it plays. powerball seems to have high prizes but if it keeps adding states it might have to change to reflect how many people live in a powerball state.

OK, I'll admit it...I was wrong... I was sure that TN would go with MM over the "Rebecca factor". But, with this decision, the TELC retailers were not the only one's rejoicing. I am sure that the VA lottery retailers along the TN line who make a ton of $$$ of TN players playing MM were jumping for joy too. (The same can probably be said for the GA lottery retailers along the TN border as well.)

Same here, hyper. Hate to say this, but right after when We (Pa.) joined, and maybe S. Car. and USVI, is when more balls went into the hopper. Good idea, up the smaller prizes. There maybe too many people in already; but I'll keep playing. Yeah, also, I think more (newer) states may jump into this ppool; and the matrix will be tweaked again. I have a radical idea: What if there were LESS red balls and more white balls? Maybe even more drawn? That way, better odds of the lesser prizes, but those could be more. Like $5 for just the PB, maybe $5 or so for 2 white balls and go from there. Keep the Power Play. Maybe buy a powerplay. $1 to $4 extra multiplies the payout proportionally. Other than that, agree that current set up is bad enough, don't worsen it with more players. Yep, I should go work for the lottery. They can pay me instead of the outsourced consultants. I could work slightly cheaper.
