Final Mega Millions Tally: $239 Million

Mega Millions Mega Millions: Final Mega Millions Tally: $239 Million

When the winner of the U.S. Mega Millions Lottery drawing comes forward they will get $239 million instead of the advertised $230 million Friday top prize.

Virginia lottery officials Monday said the jackpot was actually $9 million more because of strong ticket sales during the hour leading up to the Feb. 20 drawing.

One jackpot-winning ticket was purchased in Stephens City, Va., with all five winning numbers: 01-12-20-21-30 and the gold Mega Ball, 24.

"As if $230 million wasn't enough," said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Penelope Kyle, "exceptionally strong sales in the hour leading up to Friday's drawing pushed the actual jackpot amount a full $9 million higher than our estimated jackpot amount."

A single winner could take an annuity of $9.1 million a year for 26 years, or $17.49 per minute, before taxes.

The Mega Millions jackpot for Tonight's drawing is $10 million.

they should have used the 9 million on this rollover, but I guess you need to follow the rules on the game!

I think you have to make careful preparations before going public on a prize this large.  I'm sure that's what the winner is doing.
