Diagnosing an Internet Explorer Loading Problem.
I had an interesting little problem when viewing some websites; including the Lottery Post. The web pages took forever to load. I could not understand why some pages would work fine and some would not. Anyway, I found a way to diagnose the problem using Microsoft Internet Explorer. The actual problem turned out to be an Add-On for Internet Explorer. You can Quick Check this by starting Internet Explorer without Add-ons....

Updating Large Value Data Types in SQL Server 2005
SQL Server 2005 added some new large value data types that are extremely useful for storing large chunks of text. Such is the case with any large forum web site, such as Lottery Post. Each forum post whether humongous or a couple of words occupies just one row [record] in the database. In fact, the entire content of a forum post is contained within just one cell [field]. The Lottery Post database was formerly stored using SQL Server 2000,...

toying with excel's TIMER in VBA
interesting little experiment, works just like VB6 in that a call to RND(-1) always starts you at the same place in the list, brings up some interesting questions... 1.) does their RNG continue along the same path (no RNG(-1) call)? 2.) does the date play a factor? RANDOMIZE(NOW()) vs. RANDOMIZE(TIMER) 3.) are they using hardware sources for entropy or does the state's choice of COBOL as a programming language play any type of contributing facto...

If You Hate Your Job!
IF YOU HATE YOUR JOB! I had a job that lasted 15 years. There was a lot of things I was unhappy about and I became bitter. Lots of other people just quit. I lost my job. It happened July 2004. I had been smart enough to be out of debt, so I only had a mortgage, no car payment, two cars a...

Performance Increases
Today I spent some time working with Lottery Post's SQL Server database engine, tuning the performance. It seems there were a few tricks that I wasn't utilizing before, in order to use memory on the server more effectively. After making some changes, it appears that they seem to be paying off. Just about every page is showing some performance increase, and on some pages the increase is dramatic. Lack of proper tuning is the reason many web sit...

WinXP, Firewalls, Internet Sites, operating systems and software.
I am using Win XP, it is not bad, but I was using an old firewall, sygate, the free version, it was very good for very many years, but now many Internet sites and or people go thru it as if it wasn't there at all. It was the best free firewall that I could find for very many years and I had tested very many free firewalls. But it didn't last forever, I have now tested several other free firewalls all over again as I did years ago. Since I have WinXP fir...
