I live in Indiana and my state lottery has a nice website and app which does great things, but why or why does it not allow online ticket sales on their website! Kentucky does! my sister lives in Kentucky and she never has to go out and buy her tickets. what would be a reason for a state to not offer such a option. I play in a syndicate that allows me to buy tickets online, so guess i have had a taste of the convienence of doing so, but bitter i can't buy my own personal tickets likewise on my s

so my state now has online ticket sales here in australia
here they have had online for a while interstate. finally they bring it here. This is bad news for the retailers, who had to pay a hefty commission to get the terminals in their store. and are also embargoed form having a sales in low traffic locations, or near another terminal owner. Maybe the clerks don t like selling them but convenience store owners LOVE the lottery. I just read recently that 95% of people who go into a store to buy a lottery ticket also buy something else and, on average, spend over $10. In my state the association that represents gas stations and convenience stores lobbied hard against the state allowing online ticket sales because that would stop people from coming into the stores to purchase tickets. They were successful in stopping online sales.

As it stands, anything over $599 must be claimed at the lottery office. Online wins over $599 can be simply be taxed the same way with the remainder credited to the winner in question. The Kentucky pick-3 pays $600, so I asked a Cashing Agent if winners had to fill out a W-2G and pay taxes and was told no because the cost of the ticket was deducted making the winnings $599. Congress must repeal the unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 before anyone can create an international lottery game for U.S. players. We currently don't even have a national game because you can't buy MM or PB tickets in one state and cash them in another. It's possible a couple of states will ban together for Internet poker and eventually evolve into online ticket sales.

If individual state lotteries begin offering online ticket sales, that would effectively cut costs and allow them to keep purchase prices down to $1 while increasing sales. Would love to purchase tickets in the comfort of my home! Also might cut down on some auto emission pollution while they're at it.
