One ticket sold in Maine wins $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot
We went out to dinner early last night and the party at the next table was doing a toast to winning the Mega Millions. They were apparently a part of a lottery pool. I wonder if the Maine winner was actually a group buy.

Winners of $63M Australian Powerball jackpot resolve court battle with man who claimed share
I remember this story. I felt at the time as well as today that the Parkes were 100% correct. Mr. Ing was trying to scam his way into a six-figure payday. If you are part of a lottery pool and the ticket you provide as proof is a losing ticket.....that means you did not participate in the winning draw. They did not owe him anything.

$790 MILLION: Fourth-largest lottery jackpot in history to be drawn Tuesday
I once saw an even dumber comment about the lottery, on Reddit I think. A person insisted that if two tickets won the jackpot, with one held by an individual and the other held by a lottery pool, the jackpot had to be split equally among the pool + the individual. Meaning, the individual holding a winning ticket got the same amount as each person in the pool.

Lottery pool goes to court after man with losing ticket demands share of $63.3 million prize
What I've seen and even looked up CA lottery this morning since a LP bought me some tickets there read the rules. Though just two of us, hers and my tickets, my emphasis is on a group of folks claiming the winnings. Seems like wording is the key issue, no state I've played in that cuts separate checks uses the word lottery pool. Group is what is usually used and there is an IRS form for it!

Canadian man sues 16 friends for share of $1 million lottery prize despite not paying for ticket
The press is not entitled to any alleged facts on a case. Most judges are not happy if more than a quick statement is made to the press. 99% of attorneys do not instruct clients to lie. Most of the comments here raised questions as to other possible facts and inconsistencies in the lottery pool rules. We did not rely on the article alone. Saying someone has a case simply means there are likely real facts or law in dispute as to survive a motion to dismiss.

Group of seven friends win record $1.01 million Virginia Cash 5 jackpot
That scenario has happened before. That's why it's important to keep very good records, have a very detailed operating agreement and make everyone sign it if you're part of a lottery pool. Better yet, don't play in a pool in the first place and then you will never have that kind of trouble.

$731.1 million Powerball lottery jackpot won by single ticket sold in Maryland
It's very difficult to win for sure....Darn near impossible. However you definitely won't win if you don't play. Perhaps the winning ticket belongs to a lottery pool.

Declining lottery sales prompt more Powerball jackpot changes
Besides MM PB, what other tickets can you purchase on-line? I love the convenience. Only drawback here is, according to my question to the Kentucky Lottery, is that they will not cut separate checks for say you had a lottery pool.

Co-workers sue British Columbia man who won $1 million lottery prize
I was a lottery pool syndicate leader some years ago on my job. I would always make sure I would get all those co-workers names on a sheet of paper with the lottery lottery numbers, so if there were twenty participants in the pool, there also would be twenty lines of lottery numbers. I would make copies of all those who participated in the pool with all the lottery lines of numbers, and everyone who participated in this pool would get a copy. I got no complaints.
