$1.5 billion Mega Millions winner explains how "Lottery Lawyer" Jason Kurland stole $83 million
So back to anonymity. Illinois law says anything over $250K can remain anonymous...but the next line is what gets me. Paraphrasing here: However if someone uses the FOIA we will comply with that law and give them the name and city of the winner. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Does this just pertain to the average Joe Doe who uses anonymity without a trust? I'd think a trust lawyer would be the way to go. No matter what, in this day and age if someone wants to unearth something seems

$1.5 billion Mega Millions winner explains how "Lottery Lawyer" Jason Kurland stole $83 million
I don't really get the whole anonymous thing. All you did was buy a $2 lottery ticket and got incredibly lucky (and rich I might add). Either way this couple still got taken. They're biggest downfalls is entrusting so much money to someone you barely met on the internet. Kurland did a great job of marketing his services. Paid handsomely for said services too. Maybe if they started out small then gradually increase their assets under management things would have turned out differently. Perso

One Illinois lottery ticket wins $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot
Surprised no one commented on the fine print. Illinois law says if you win over $250K you can remain anonymous BUT if FOIA is used, they are legally bound to tell the name and city of the person. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Reading that it would make me get a trust Attorney to cash it in. Like others, would love to know if it was a QP or not. If we didn't have that crappy RNG here I'd play both the store # and the address on Pick 4/pick 3 respectively!

Lottery rigger Eddie Tipton released on parole
Saw this in a post from a 2012 thread, The lottery office is always trying to find a reason not to pay out and i don't see anything wrong the lottery offices are greedy and crooks themeselves their will be alot of people that will claim their winnings in a trust. I know i would because i don't want or need to go public with my winnings i feel like all states should be anonymous. Ironic how that poster called the lottery people (including Tipton) crooks and touted claiming anonymously. Wh

New bill in Wisconsin could allow some lottery winners to remain anonymous
Protecting Social Security #, give me a break. That has been in effect that I know of Federally since 1974. Many years ago my hospital employer would print out the hours an individual worked. It included your SSAN for anyone to dig through the pile to see. Yearly we had surveys to fill out which were anonymous. Said in mine if someone steals mine in violation of Federal law and I'd sue. Well they quickly gave everyone an AHS # to use and no more SSAN used. Fast forward two visits ago goi

New bill in Wisconsin could allow some lottery winners to remain anonymous
A winner's exemption from public disclosure under Peterman's bill includes shielding the winner's name, address, or social security number from public records requests for up to one year after the winner becomes entitled to their prize. This bill would keep the safety and security of lottery winners in mind Winners only get privacy for up to one year. A lot of lottery winners have become victims of thieves and murderers. If they really cared about a winner's safety and securi

$1.35 billion Mega Millions lottery winner suing mother of his child for revealing win to family
I agree, there is more to this story. At what point did he obtain the NDA ..... before or after he told her about the win or could it of been a blanket NDA obtained at the time of support was being negotiated? How could he of known she would sign it if he told her first. So if it was before she could not disclose it to the courts in order to ask for an increase. In this day and age there is no true way to remain anonymous. Banks know, the Irs knows , your attorney...etc. All of which it onl

$70 million Michigan Powerball winner says lottery winners should be able to remain anonymous
I'm not sure I'm understanding why all the harsh arguing is happening, because all the anonymity rules by state are specified right here on Lottery Post: https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/326232 When a state's anonymity laws get updated, we update the list. (As an aside, it's not really a good idea to screenshot a Google results page, because the quotes they offer on their site often leave out other important contextual information from the website they are quoting.) It's hard to tell
