$257 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot expands
Reverse Racist much? So I try to inject a little diversity with my script, giving parts to minority characters, and you cry racism? I suppose if I'd used John and Jim as characters, a coupla WHITE BOY names, then you'd be OK with it? I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that in this day and age, there is still such intolerance in the world. And for the last time, please stop polluting this MM news thread with off-topic discussion, which YOU started by the way, by ridiculing LP members out of the blue for

Judge throws out some charges against lottery-thieving brothers
What's also crazy is that NY has that $500,000,000 Extravaganza scratch-off game that ran for 5 years, alowing for someone to claim a win 6 years later, a year after the end date. Our scratch games in CA only run around a year or less, and then you have 180 days to claim after end date. That long time between purchase and claim just screams fraud. Like that Hot Lotto incident a while back claimed by the lawyer hours before deadline. If they wait that long, there's something wrong.

Penn. Lottery seeking outside help for marketing efforts
Should be an interesting story to follow. Wonder if other states with similar conditions will follow suit? Privatization might actually be the best thing that ever happened to the state run lotteries. Many people including myself, are very disappointed with the crappy returns on most if not all of the scratch games in the last few years.

Lotteries hit record profits last year
Lottery sales are strong, but there are points of weakness By Todd Northrop Government-sponsored lotteries are continuing their broad expansion as income-producing entities, as many lotteries reported record profits in the last fiscal year. Reports of record profits from the lotteries come despite continuing high unemployment and an economy that has been flat or downward-trending for the past two years. Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich says he believes the lottery does well in a bad econo

Changes coming to Powerball multi-state lottery game in January
You have to ask yourself, Why do I play Powerball? If the answer is because its costs $1 , then you probably should quit. If the answer is for a shot at really big jackpots , then you might want to wait to see what happens to the game. If the answer is for a shot at a really big jackpots and the chance to win a million while I'm waiting , then, you might want to check out the new game. The scratch games moved to higher prices long ago. Sales of $1 scratch tickets are in decline while sales o

Okla. Lottery Commission struggles to meet its 35% profit requirement
As a result of the finance and audit committee's dreary budget forecasts for fiscal year 2008, the Oklahoma Lottery Commission is planning to trim costs and attempt to get a key statutory requirement of the commission eliminated. The board plans to try to amend out a requirement that the Lottery Commission post a 35-percent profit in their third year of operations. The board said they are doing all they can to trim operating costs without cutting current staff and advertising expenditures,

Cancer victim struggles to get $1 million lottery prize in lump sum
It sounds to me like he's probably lucky there's no cash option... How can you say that? Mr Scheck probably thought the $1 million was lump sum. I'm sure he knows however that he would be liable for state and federal taxes regardless. The NY Lottery, if it insists on annuity-only scratch games for those with fixed payouts (as opposed to the lose for life variety) should experiment with a $1 million scratch game with two versions with basically the same name. The lower tier prizes and o

Cancer victim struggles to get $1 million lottery prize in lump sum
For those of you who get on me because I frequently complain about NY's annuity-only scratch games, this is exactly why I do so. Any bill introduced into legislation to give Mr Schenk the money upfront should apply to ALL lottery winners in NY state. I also think Mr Schenk should try to contact new Gov Eliot Spitzer. This has given the NY Lottery a black eye, just as with Louise Outing with MA Megabucks. NY does have a new lottery director. I seem to be encouraged by him (the NY Lottery took a s

N.C. Lottery chief adding new games to overcome revenue shortfall
1. North Carolina doesn't have PowerPlay? 2. Why isn't NC getting Hot Lotto (at least not now?) I heard South Carolina was developing a Carolina Plus 6 . BTW there are lawmakers in NY who want to cut the payout on scratch games to 40%. NC's pay 52%.

Couple has $2M reason to thank their lucky stars
Cash Only: Very odd that you do not know about your own scratch games, being a New Yorker yourself. There is certainly a $2 million scratch game. (How else could they have won it?) Here's a $2 million scratch game right here: http://www.nylottery.org/ny/nyStore/cgi-bin/InstantGameDetail_Cat_201872_SubCat_1168122_NavRoot_301.htm Congratulations to the big $2 million winners!
