IGT prevails in DOJ lawsuit; Wire Act only applies to sports betting
Lotteries and poker are not controlled by Wire Act A fight spanning more than a decade over varying interpretations of the Interstate Wire Act of 1961 may finally be reaching its end after a Rhode Island District Court judge ruled that the US Department of Justice must formally state that the law only applies to sports betting. The ruling, a significant victory for online poker in the US, was made in a November 2021 lawsuit filed by International Game Technology (IGT) against the DOJ in

Georgia lottery officials question legality of fantasy sports companies
Georgia Lottery officials are questioning whether the daily fantasy sports industry can legally operate in the state, according to a letter sent last month to CEOs of DraftKings and FanDuel. Georgia Lottery General Counsel Joseph Kim said in the Sept. 23 letter that the companies appear to violate the Georgia Constitution, which generally bans gambling except for state lottery-run games. Kim said Monday that neither company responded by the Friday deadline given in his letter. He said lott

New Hampshire wins appeal; Wire Act does not apply to lotteries
Never did understand the DOJ's logic in changing the 2011 opinion by including Internet lotteries with sports betting. It's not like lottery games can shave points or lose on purpose. Been 100 years since the Chicago Black White Sox were caught and banned from baseball for betting on games . If interstate and Internet sports betting becomes legal, Pete Rose might be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The little firm that got a big chunk of D.C.'s lottery and sports gambling contract has no employees
This is the story I read before commenting on the DOJ sports betting case. And after reading about Bailey, I'm wondering if this is an effort to stop sports betting at least in D.C.

DoJ files notice of appeal against New Hampshire Wire Act ruling
Saw where the D.C. Lottery hired a company to run their sports betting too. Considering the number of lotteries wanting to get into sports betting, it will be very interesting to see which side the Supreme Court takes.

New Hampshire sues DOJ over new Wire Act ruling
Yes you have to be physically in that state. Same for NJ sports betting, have to be physically in New Jersey to wager. I've read some folks on border towns of KY could not play on-line because the system thinks they are not in KY. As for residency requirements I would say Yes to that too as you have to register to play the lottery with all the required information. For sports gambling don't think so, folks cross over from New York to play.

Four NJ companies roll out sports betting as NFL season kicks off
I really doubt the California Lottery or any other state lottery will be running sports books nor will they have their 23,000 lottery retailers taking bets on football or any other sporting events. Some or all of the AC casinos might sell NJ lottery tickets and maybe they will move their lottery terminals into their sports book, but that is the only connection between the lottery and those casinos.

Joe Girardi pitches N.Y. legislature on sports gambling
Delaware will have sports betting next week and New Jersey won't be far behind. By the end of the year there should be at least 10 states with sports betting.

New Jersey makes case to Supreme Court on sports betting
I still cannot understand this Maybe because it's kind of bizarre, and the article could explain it better. Most laws prohibit people from doing things, but the 1992 law says that government entities can't authorize by law most forms of sports gambling, while exempting states that already allowed it. History suggests that federal law can prohibit sports gambling under the commerce clause, but this law more or less says that the prohibition is based on the federal government not allowing sta
