Not sure if the relevant rules have changed since then, but currently most of the NY Lotto prizes are parimutuel. 2nd place can vary widely depending on how long it goes without a winner, while 3rd and 4th are a bit more consistent. 5th place is the only one that's fixed, and pays $1.
