The state lottery has to set aside a fixed percentage of fed and state taxes after the win and before the winner comes forward. Most states require 6 months or more to establish residency. It would look like you were intentionally trying to avoid paying additional taxes to state A and it would likely be flagged for an audit with a huge jp win.
There is an offsetting credit between states so you would not be double taxed if both states had state taxes.

As much as I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing, the real winner is the California public school system, Castro said in his note.

Saving your lotto receipts and scratcher cards for a year is also good for tax purposes. If you itemize your deductions and want to successfully defend against an IRS audit, then it makes sense to save them for a year.

Convicted lottery rigger Eddie Tipton was released from prison on Friday following a series of events that had his freedom in limbo.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections online prison records, Eddie Tipton, 59, was released from prison in Clarinda, Iowa on parole.
