One lottery ticket sold in New Jersey wins $521 million Mega Millions jackpot
A few things to bring to your awareness. The owner only received a 33k check for printing the winning ticket so at a 15k gift before penalties max he should be ok Again the owner didn't win the jackpot he says he knows the winner as a regular. Recipients of cash gifts don't pay taxes I guess unless its under the clause of the inheritance tax which New Jersey does impose. But this isn't considered an inheritance. I love you

Man with terminal illness wins 20-year annuity lottery jackpot
Yes, all lottery prizes go to the estate of the winner. I'm not sure I would cash in the annuity if I were dying, unless I didn't have any family at all. Usually the winner would ask a family member to claim the prize, so there would be no inheritance tax. In this case, he didn't win over $2 million so there probably won't be an inheritance tax on the money. By cashing in the annuity and losing so much money, less the taxes, his family wouldn't be left with much. I'm not passing judgment,

Lottery scam victim lost life savings
Good approach, or how about Yes I do have $40,000 from an inheritance but it is tied up with the attorney. I need $7,999 to pay the attorney fees so I can get the money released. If we take the money we have, the $8,000, it's just enough for me to wire to the attorney and then I'll be able to give the full amount. How does that sound? .

Retired NY principal claims $326M lottery jackpot
Congrats to the lucky winners! That's a lot of money. I would definitely donate a percentage to charity. My family wouldn't have any financial hardships. Even the Bible says a good man leaves an inheritance!

Woman scammed out of $400,000 pursuing lottery-sized fortune
It is sad to think people actually believe this stuff and send money. If I had a lost relative or something else promising me money, I would just tell them to deduct whatever expenses from my inheritance. Whatever I receive is more than I initially had, haha!

Book imagines low-IQ man winning $12 million in Washington lottery
You don't have to be slow to be cheated. My grandfather inherited a meat packing business and his mother had him sign it over to her by claiming he had to sign a form to receive the inheritance. By all accounts, she was rotten to the core.

N.J. native wins $38M Calif. Lottery jackpot
Great Story!! I agree with you, Miss NYC, but sometimes I wonder what I would do if I won that kind of money. I am looking for their ages. They could be only 55. Many retirement communities here accept people over 50. They won so much money that knowing their Golden Years are protected must be a very good feeling. They can always take half of the money every year and invest it as Mr. Salek indicated he would. Just the first payment will change their lives dramatically. EDIT:
