Probably the biggest reason I want to see Hot Lotto do well is to put pressure on Massachusetts (which borders New Hampshire) to allow all big winners to collect in lump sum.

Will Mass. finally do the right thing?
Mega Millions winners in Massachusetts, as well as in the other nine (current) states, are allowed to collect their jackpot prize in lump sum. However, winners of their 6/42, 6/49, and many of their scratch games still are required to receive annuity payments.Maybe Mass. lottery players finally will have the same rights as those who buy other states' tickets.

AIG:Now I know why the Red Sox haven't won the WS since 1918...their players are afraid (since their home games are in Massachusetts) that if they win the WS, they'll get paid in annual payments instead of cash!

These days, when somebody hits Powerball, Mega Millions, or some other US jackpot game, you almost expect the winner(s) to collect the jackpot prize in lump sum. However, (although Massachusetts DOES allow its Mega Millions winners to select the cash option) its Megabucks (6/42) and Mass Millions (6/49) winners still CANNOT collect their jackpot prize in lump sum. MrSoul: It's never cool to receive annuity payments should you win the lottery. If you're in Massachusetts, _avoid_ their 6/42 and 6/49 since both are ANNUITY-ONLY.

I don't feel that strongly about it. Maybe if Iactually won I would become more financiallyastute and upset. I'd certainly like to beable to take the lump sum and say goodbye to Massachusetts forever, without being connectedby a yearly check. But it comes down to if I won ...and winning an annuity certainly beats what I have now.I actually know 2 people who have won MA Megabucksand they've never complained about being paidover 20 years.
