MM for tues 12-14-04

New York Lotto jackpot is $38M this week. A $38M jackpot is worth $38M in any state regardless of the state's percent of return to its players. I have yet to hear of a jackpot winner refusing that kind of money because the percent of return was too low. If you're not winning, the

Online games with less than 50% payout
I have repeatedly trashed NY Lotto 6/59 (cash option or not) because the prize return is ONLY 38%-40% of sales. If you don't believe me, compare the 5/6, 4/6, and 3/6 prizes with Florida Lotto, which has roughly the same jackpot odds.Anyway, here in NY, box bets (3- and 4-digit) return 48% (straights do pay 50%). Do any other online games pay back winners less than 50%?BTW, the new Massachusetts Ca$h WinFall game pays 60%, AFAIK the best of any US lotto game. Online keno seems to return 60%-6

UK Lotto for Saturday 7/10/2004
tony2222,I have never once bought a lottery ticket thinking that it helps give money to the state. If I had my way the state would get ZERO and the whole prize would go to the prize pool. I would rather have the state cut back on some of its costly programs rather than taking money from the lottery.Comparing the UK Lotto to any Massachusetts game is a bad comparison, because the UK Lotto prizes are very high and all-cash.It is actually rather easy for me to spend $2 a ticket for UK Lotto, espe

The new Massachusetts Game.
>Cahill also used this occasion to announce a new game with a unique prize structure not yet seen in Massachusetts. Cash WinFall, a jackpot game which features increased odds of winning, will commence in September. This game was developed with the success of instant tickets in mind the odds of winning a prize are one-in-six and when the jackpot reaches $2 million without a winner, the money is distributed to thousands of lower tier prizes. Cash WinFall will replace Mass Millions, which will b

Big game rules??
Some info from the old PlayBigGame.com Web site:The Lottery Directors of the original member states of Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia created The Big Game in 1996. Sales for the game began in the previously mentioned states on August 31, 1996. The first drawing took place on September 6, 1996.After successful growth of the game in 1997, a Tuesday drawing was added in February of 1998 and players were given a larger numbers matrix to choose from and a lump sum

An Idea for Mega Millions
I've said this before, but here goes: Why in God's name does anyone think MM needs to produce larger jackpots? How much is enough? Why would anyone be on the side of the state collecting millions of dollars week after week with no winner? Do you buy a ticket with a dream of winning? Is it just that you find a $400 million jackpot more interesting and fun than a boring $44 million jackpot?I could take the boredom. Tonight's jackpot lump sum would give $17,500,000 after taxes in Massachusetts. I

powerball now at 140

By the way, according to the PowerBall website, no one from New Hampshire has come forward to claim that prize yet.RJOh Actually, the grand prize from that drawing was claimed. Massachusetts
I'm from Mass and would like a cash option on these games, though I am not sure I'd take it (See Hitting the Jackpot of Questions Washington Post article). The new treasurer, Tim Cahill, is a big disappointment on doing anything to kick some life into these 2 sluggish games. Are things so entrenched and unchangable in Massachusetts that they can never be changed? What is going on there? What could be the real reasons they don't have a cash option? If anyone works for the state or MA lottery

Mass. 6/42 & 6/49
I live in Massachusetts and have a season ticketfor Megabucks. Whatever the reasoning 20 years ago, there's definitely no reason for denying winnersthe cash now, and they should change it. But thisis Mass, where corruption, small-mindedness, incompetence and inertia rule, so I don't know what it would take to get a small change likethat done. To be honest, the Mass lottery *really* needs to do something to make both games more exciting andget a little publicity and fresh ticket sales. The Big G

Suggestion for NEW ENGLAND
Many of you know that Massachusetts (in addition to MM) offers two in-state jackpot games, 6/42 and 6/49, both of which happen to be ANNUITY-ONLY. In the last couple of years, there has been a trend towards replacing single-state jackpot games with second-tier multi-state games ( Lotto South , Hot Lotto .) Other single-state games are hurting (eg Michigan Millions is being replaced next month.) Maybe the MASS 6/49 should be expanded to all six New England states (perhaps Tri-State Megabuck
