Should you win either jackpot: would you hesitate to write a check to fellow forumites?
Yes, I would hesitate. There is no way I would write a check to a stranger that I have not met, and only talked with on a forum. Where money is involved, people get weird ideas. Like, hey I deserve a piece of that . I came into a little inheritance a few years ago, and the neighbor behind me got wind of it and came knocking on the door. Really. They didn't know how much I got, but it didn't matter. They felt they were entitled to some. My wife told the neighbor not to ever knock on our door a

How do you change your life style without arising suspicion?
This is pretty much my sitch too. I have relatives, but no one close enough to know my financial situation. I have a few friends who would be curious. I'd probably tell them I got a small inheritance or something. You could tell them your portfolio has been doing well for several years so you decided to cash some out. But I wouldn't go hog wild no matter how much I win. I'd upgrade to an upper middle class neighborhood, and buy a Mercedes. Other than that, most of my purchases wouldn't be co

Woman wins $40M, not $40K, sparking wild celebrations
Good for her and her family. It is a blessing and appears as though it was truly meant for her to win. Bitter people always try to predict the dismise of others. It's a shame to see people say she will be broke in 5-7 years or whatever, if we worked harder on optimism and predicting the numbers we wouldnt have time to dig ditches for others to fall in. We reap what we sow and the pit you dig for someone else may very well be your pit that you fall in. Buying houses and cars for her children wont

Lawmakers going after unclaimed lottery money
It's too late for this turn around to occur; the debt on the backs of these politician's populace is way too high. This debt will continue to be to high, even four decades from today. This is what happens when a state's/country's voting and unvoting populace is so distracted doing mainly unimportant slave-like, rote, tasks to stop their non-inspected, non-experienced, non-altruistic hired/elected personnel from destroying economies! It's too late for this country, and most of the other ones,

Will new tax hikes affect lottery pay outs
Yep the tax hikes will take a bigger bite of the prize. I am real excited about it. Plus we have the inheritance tax increase to boot. What is real exciting about lottery jackpots is the winners have that tax skimmed right off up front before they get their check. Spread the wealth.

Woman accuses son of taking $51 million lottery ticket
As to why didn't she have her husband sign? It could be that she wanted her children to be the ones to inherit later, not his. In this world of extended families, there exists a conundrum for older remarrieds regarding inheritance for their children from earlier marriages. Maybe she does not get along with his kids from an earlier marriage and did not wish for them to benefit from her winnings. Lessons learned: don't go to the place you bought the ticket to verify winnings. Verify yourself,

If you win MM, name something "odd" you'd do...
Odd things? I cut a rug with that clown after I got my inheritance in '06. We pulled an all-nighter that lasted a year. It was a blast, til I woke up with an empty bank account. So I'm fairly certain that if I were to win a MM jackpot, the oddest thing I might do is buy a house, some savings bonds, and settle down. I mean, for at least a year.

Atheist converts after mock prayer to win $1M lottery is answered
I love stories like this........ Isaiah 61:7 Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs. The mother got 2 blessings her son becoming a believer and $1 million dollars......... Thank you Jesus!!!!!!!!

Siblings fight over lottery jackpot
It's hard to judge something like this. Were James and Christina trying to screw the others out of their rightful inheritance or did they feel they didn't deserve it because they never helped out taking care of Dad and had no use for him until he won the lottery? Maybe James and Christina had amassed considerable debt taking care of him and the others refused to contribute, who knows? Either way, it's terrible to see a family torn apart because of money. Family is far and away more impo
