About 35 African migrants, including at least one rescued at sea from an overcrowded wooden boat, are among the top prize winners of Spain's Christmas lottery, according to the owner of the lottery agency that sold more than 1,000 tickets that shelled out 400,000 euros (US$438,000) each. Winners share $3 billion in Spain's El Gordo lottery
Thanks for the response but I find it very confusing. He says he has nothing to send but then goes on to say that it is in Spanish and we would not be able to understand it. Whatever it is. Sound like he does have something to send. A lot of people in North America can speak, read and write Spanish. It is a very popular language. He goes on to say that you must be a resident of Spain to play. But for how long? Can one live in Spain for 1 year and then buy a ticket? How about 3 months. How abo

Why don't we have a federal national lottery in the US?
Washington should copy El Gordo, the 'Fat One', lottery in Spain. It is Spain s annual Christmas lottery. It raises billions in Spain, a similar Christmas lottery in the US, could raise much more. It has been estimated that 75 per cent of adult Spaniards play the Christmas lottery and the state company which organises The Fat One reckons that this year each Spaniard will spend an average of 62.72 on tickets, with the amount of tickets on sale reaching a value of 3.2 billion.

El Gordo?
Some lotteries already do an El Gordo-style raffle periodically. But I don't think there will ever be an El Gordo SIZED raffle in the USA, because in Spain it is a cultural thing, and nearly the entire country plays. In the USA games like Powerball and Mega Millions are more culturally adapted, with a jackpot that one person can win. (In Spain, the top El Gordo prize is smaller than a typical USA jackpot, and is won by many people.)

Euromillions
More than likely the most winners come from where the most tickets are sold. Here in the US, CA, NY, PA have the majority of jackpot winners because they sell more tickets (and they have higher populations). But also, sometimes, it's just the way random is. Higher populations does not always equate to higher ticket sales. If Spain sells more tickets, Spain will usually have more jackpot winners.
