Maryland Mega winner believes in magic
Thank you, wyndechilde, for speaking the voice of reason. For the foremost collection of lottery experts on the net, we are very quick to unleash our venomous barbs on those who have achieved what we most covet. Uncle Jim, I'm surprised that you would count this fortunate soul among the numbers of Jack Whittaker, David Edwards and their ilk. After all, we have no evidence to indicate that he won't invest his money wisely, so let's give him the benefit of the doubt and wish him co

Can IRS make you pay taxes if you give lottery tickets as gifts?
Asking where the bearer got the ticket is a standard part of the validation process for tickets winning substantial prizes. Are you sure about that because I can't find asking that anywhere in the Ohio Administrated Code Lottery procedures under Claiming Winning Prizes? Not knowing when or where the ticket was bought is exactly what is expected if the ticket was stolen or reported as lost. And that's why I said unless there is a dispute . A couple ecstatically walks into the lo

Canada lottery retailers win major prizes more than public
The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) said this morning it's not worried that ticket retailers win prizes of more than $10,000 six times more often than the rest of the players. There have been four confirmed cases of retailer misconduct over the last two years, with three involving ticket sellers misleading ticket holders about how much or whether they had won. Some ticket buyers say they have considered that possibility before. One man says if the lottery retailer has the

Affirmations, mantras and Hail Marys for the lottery
Thanks, Jack. This might be of interest here: This happened in Las Vegas on a Memorial Day weekend in the late 1980's. (The pending numbers thread made me think of this, not quite pending numbers but this is a story of some kind of influence ). There's a hotel in Las Vegas that caters to the Hawaiin trade. Hawaii is a very pro-labor union state. On this particular weekend, the hotel owners (mutliple properties) had some kind of labor dispute going on with on of their other proper

Co-worker suing for share of lottery prize
HAPPY GREED DAY... KY ...... The rules for a pool may say that if you don't pay up you're not in it, but even if it's in writing it may be meaningless if someone in the pool says they'll advance the money to somebody. FTM, any written agreement could be invalidated, either in whole or in part, by a court and should probably be considered unreliable unless it has been reviewed by an attorney. This point is very well made, and may I 'piggy-back ' to it...In addition to getting the 'pool ag
