New York man scoops up two $1 million Mega Millions lottery prizes
I agree 110% about spending that extra dollar for the multiplier. I am assuming these tickets were not qps? If a store lottery random generator spit out the same 5 numbers twice, that is a story.

Powerball / Mega Millions
MM had quite a lead over PB, so PB was playing catch up. I also think because of the 2M cap on PB Powerplay, most people would rather the MM multiplier which can pay up to 5M if the 5X is drawn.

Powerball & Mega Millions: A History
Yeeah, we'll go with Mega Millions (a.k.a. Trillions) for now when the pot's low. Maybe even a multiplier since they are so generous with that, too.

Where to view megaplier/power play for the next draw ?
The Megaplier multiplier number is chosen at random by computerized drawing in Texas at around the same time the Mega Millions numbers are drawn in Georgia. Megaplier was invented by the Texas Lottery as an add-on available only in that state, but was later available in all of the Mega Millions states except California starting in 2010. The Megaplier continues to be drawn in Texas. Got that from USAMega.

thoughts on lottery syndicates
Wow, those are some pretty serious stakes. If I was in an office of let's say 10 people. We could each give $100 a month. That's $1,000 total. Then we would only play Megamillions because with the multiplier we could earn up to 5M on second tier prize. So two draws a week - 8 draws a month. $1,000 divided by $3 (cost of ticket with multiplier) we get 333.3 tickets a month. Divide the 333.3 with 8 draws, that gives us 41.6. So for each draw we could potentially buy

Do You Play the Multiplier Option?
I always play the multiplier on PowerBall or Megamillions . I know you need to win something first before it can be multiplied, but j ust think... for an extra $1, all of those second prize winners could have won 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x their $1,000,000.00 prize (except in CA.)

Do You Play the Multiplier Option?
Additionally, there is a difference in the method the multiplier is selected. Mega Millions uses a Ball Drawn Number, whereas, Powerball Lotto America uses a Computer Generated Number.
