Maine Lottery holds final Summer Spectacular raffle drawing
The Maine Lottery yesterday completed the third of its three Summer Spectacular raffle drawings, which awarded cash prizes, as well as some prizes not normally associated with a state lottery. A complete list of winning numbers for the raffle drawing can be found on Lottery Post's Maine Lottery Results page (www.lotterypost.com/results/me). Unlike most other state lotteries in which raffle tickets typically cost $10 or $20 each, Maine's raffle tickets were given away for free after a minim ...

Unemployed woman gets lotto winnings after 4 years
An unemployed woman who won $1 million in a Maine State Lottery game has collected her winnings four years after she bought the scratch ticket in a store that's since burned down. Brenda Ripton told the Central Maine Morning Sentinel that she had received her $700,000 check from the lottery on Thursday. Ripton had just learned two days earlier that she won the million-dollar prize in the Texas Hold 'em game. The government took the rest of her winnings for taxes. Ripton said both she an ...

Lawmakers steamed about lottery promotion
The Maine Lottery is getting strong, bipartisan criticism for its Funds For Fuel promotion as lawmakers say the lottery should not be using Mainers' fear of high fuel prices this winter to sell more lottery tickets. I think it is misleading, Sen. Debra Plowman, R-Hampden, a member of the Legislature's Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee that has oversight of the lottery, said this week. It almost sounds like some of the money will go to fuel assistance. It doesn't. It is just another way to ...

Before drawing, lottery finalists agree to split jackpot
Eight finalists agree a 4-in-5 chance of share is better than a 1-in-10 chance of winning it all While the Maine State Lottery did not draw either of Angelina Bittues' numbers Thursday evening, the Winthrop woman could still claim a piece of $2.25 million. Bittues was one of the eight finalists in the lottery's $2.5 million Extravaganza Instant Ticket game who agreed to split the spoils from a live drawing held Thursday at the Augusta Civic Center. The agency invited 10 finalists each ...

Police seize winning lottery ticket bought with drug money
A Maine man who was arrested Thursday for selling methadone to an undercover police officer apparently used money from the sale to buy a lottery ticket that won him $1,000. Michael David, 46, will not be allowed to keep the winning ticket. I guess it will be up to a judge to decide, but it's in our possession right now as proceeds from a drug transaction, Ellsworth Police Chief John Deleo said Friday. David, who has been staying at a motel on High Street, went into the Irving Mainway ...

Most lottery winners crave privacy
Whatever other effects winning the lottery might have on Mainers, in the long term it certainly turns them into a reclusive lot. If they hadn't moved out of state or changed their phone to an unlisted number, they either refused to answer their phone or return calls. Most of those who did talk quickly stopped for fear that additional publicity would invite a wave of long-lost relatives asking for handouts. The most recent Megabucks winners, Edward Cardali Jr. and Regan Cardali of Oakland ...
