Lottery sales are strong, but there are points of weakness

Government-sponsored lotteries are continuing their broad expansion as income-producing entities, as many lotteries reported record profits in the last fiscal year.
Reports of record profits from the lotteries come despite continuing high unemployment and an economy that has been flat or downward-trending for the past two years.

$190M Idaho lottery winner sorts out her new life
Holly Lahti burst into the spotlight a week ago in a feel-good story about a single mother who won a $190 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Then came the mugshot: a thin young woman with disheveled brown hair, sporting a black eye and cuts and bruises on her face and neck. Idaho woman claims 2nd half of $380M Mega Millions jackpot

A 29-year-old mother of two and former bank worker from northern Idaho has claimed the remaining half of a $380 million Mega Millions jackpot, lottery officials and others said Wednesday.
Holly Lahti, of the small town of Rathdrum, will split the second-largest lottery jackpot in history with Jim and Carolyn McCullar of Ephrata, Wash.

The Idaho Lottery conducted its annual $1,000,000 Raffle drawing Wednesday evening, and created one instant millionaire.
The winning numbers are available at Lottery Post's Idaho Lottery Results page.
In addition to the $1 million top prize, there were four winners of $25,000, 250 winners of $250, 500 winners of $100, and 1,750 winners of $50. All prizes are lump-sum cash payments.

Powerball lottery ticket worth $1M expired
Idaho Lottery officials say time has run out for someone holding a Powerball ticket worth $1 million.
The winning ticket was sold for the March 6, 2010 Powerball draw. The ticket was purchased at Huskey's in Irwin, Idaho near the Idaho-Wyoming border. The ticket matched the first five numbers, but not the Powerball.
Winners have 180 days to collect their prizes, and Thursday at 6 p.m. was deadline for the ticket holder to claim the $1 million.

Once homeless, now a lottery winner
A 37-year-old Boise insurance agent who at one time lived in a homeless shelter has won $250,000 in the Idaho Lottery.
Anthony Castro won the money playing a scratch ticket that he bought at Jacksons Food Stores in Boise.
Castro says he has donated some of his winnings to his church, plans to set up a trust account for his daughter and will invest and bank the rest.
