Anyone know anything at all about something called a "GA Lottery Players Club"?

The GLC site has been promoting it lately as "coming soon".

Is that like the online gaming they was talking about around a year ago. Proccess was to allow up to $5 or $10 a day per registered account.  Still looking for it.

Kinda like trying to find the winning number in my Grid huh?

You could very well be right, Sir Metro.  Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

I was thinking that maybe the GLC might be planning to set up some sort of an online forum or "club" ... similar to LP, but for Georgia players only.  Would doing that be unheard of for any state's lottery commision?

Hopefully, we'll all know relatively "soon".

No, the Georgia legislature never passed it - actually, it was never even brought up for a vote.

            Todd, Todd, Todd,

Even though we made a bet and it appears you will win the bet, please don't distort the facts.  LOL

The Bill passed in the House 131 Yes to 32 No.

The Senate Read and Referred the Bill on 03/09/04, whatever that means.  In my opinion, they are just stalling or delaying it, but the terms of the Bill read:

The board shall initiate the provisions of this subsection not later than December 31, 2006, and shall make periodic progress reports to the Georgia Lottery Corporation Legislative Oversight Committee, the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, with the first such report being due not later than December 31, 2004."

If I understand this correctly, we should hear something by December 31, 2004.  Then again I am not a politician so I might be wrong.  Sounds like they are giving themselves until December 2006 to try and get this thing passed.  Here is hoping they do....

            Thanks,

            LA - John

No, John, this never came to pass, and as I originally predicted, it never will.  It's DEAD.  I don't think it's a good idea anyway, because it would cause problems in the industry.

                    rrosser,

John and I were referring to something different than a player's club.  It was a proposed measure to let anyone play the Georgia lottery over the internet.  In my opinion, it was dead from the start, but John disagreed, so we wagered a $20 bet (if memory serves).  I'm close to winning the entire bet (the bet was structured over time) because, as I envisioned, the Senators knew that it would not pass legal muster, which is why they have not, and will not, bring it up for a vote.

                      Hi Todd and Everyone,

Actually Todd, I believe our wager was 3 components at $10.00 each so I actually owe you $30.00 rather than $20.00, which I plan to pay you at the end of March via Paypal. ;-)  I am waiting till March because per the Georgia Legislature website, the next General Assembly begins in January and runs through March.

WHEN IS THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN SESSION?
Annual sessions begin on the 2nd Monday in January and run for 40 Legislative days. Sessions normally end in mid to late March, depending upon the number of recess days.

While I agree with you that this issue is asleep, I totally disagree that it is DEAD and think it is only a matter of time before you can purchase Lottery tickets legally on line.  It may not happen this year, but I feel confident it will happen one day.  There is too much potential revenue for the state governments to ignore the opportunity.  Anyway, time will tell and for the time being you have won.  Congrats.

God willing, I hope I will be around in a year or two to say, "Told you so".  Then again, you might be doing the same to me.  LOL

                      Thanks,

                      LA - John
