The last thing you should do when someone posts spam on the forums is to reply to the post.

Don't reply to any topic posted by a spammer.

The only thing that you're doing by replying to it is bumping it up in the forums.  That is exactly what that idiot wants.

The only correct action to take is to click the "Report Abuse" link that appears on the bottom of the post.

Please DO click that link for each post made by a spammer.  It is a very simple process, and takes just a moment to do.

If you are making several reports of the same person, do not feel the need to type a detailed note to me when reporting the spam.  The most important thing is that you're reporting it, and the report I get includes a direct link to the post, so I can easily find the spam.

By clicking the link on each spam post you come across, that will ensure that I find them all.  For example, if you stumble upon 5 different spam posts, but you only report the first one, then I may not find the other four.

Thanks everyone for your help in eliminating spam.

Don't worry, I'll get rid of this guy, just like I did 3 or 4 months ago (it's the same jerk).  It just takes some time for me to observe him and then crush his access.  Just keep clicking that Report Abuse link when you find spam.

Good luck!

Blatant advertising with a link to a site. Of course there's other types of spam, but that's the main one I think...

Oh and sorry about replying to that topic made early this morning. No Nod Thought it might've been a good idea to at least put up a warning about not clicking the link and it was still a new post and on top of the board.

With odds like 1 in 175,711,536 how can I lose?!

You can't predict random.

Thanks for pointing out where the "report abuse" button is. I have viewed this site hundreds of time and never once noticed that link.

Good one Win D, absolutely right.

You ever see the movie The Shawshank Redemption?  The spammer is just like the main character who claims to be innocent.  Fellow prisoner Red (Morgan Fairchild) has the perfect response:  "Everybody's innocent in here."

Good luck!

No worries!

I posted the explanation above to educate folks on dealing with spamers.  I don't expect that most people know this stuff before I post it.

I want to make Lottery Post the most unfriendly place on the Internet for spammers, and enlisting the help of everyone here is the best way to do it.

Good luck!

How do you know if they are spammers?

First, look at how many posts they have made on LP. You'll usually find they have made few previously. Second, if it is off-topic, (we discuss lotteries here) or promises something "too good to be true" it could be spam, especially if the post wants you to click on a link.

Don't worry that you may be "in error" necessarily.  That is for Todd to decide. Just let him know you think the post is spam or a scam, and the call is his....we are not the judge...Todd is, and I don't think he minds if we report something and he checks it out and it turns out not to be spam. It's his call, and I think he would rather be "safe than sorry".

Life is short.  So PAY ATTENTION  !

In fact, if i recall right (and i'm an avid Stephen King reader...), Tim Robbins is actually innocent,
so i guess he comes nowhere near of being the "spammer", he is the victim.

cheers
