Looking for scratch players from TNPrev TopicNext Topic

Looking to make some friends from tennessee who like playing scratch off and would like to share information and knowledge from the tennesse scratch off world and perhaps even begin our own round table syndicate for tennesse scratch offs. I am a relative newbie to the games, but already, using the advice I've learned from hours and hours of study ... I've begun to hit big tickets with VERY minimal investment. A tiny thing I learned online just a few days ago lead me to buy ONE MORE ticket today, after glancing down at the ticket number in the lower right hand corner of a loser. That next ticket was a $500 payday. Had I not stumbled across someones remark in the comment trail of an article i read a few days back... I would have 'rode on' ... instead, I'm a little bit richer.
here are the stats from my $500 payoff:
total investment: $40 (including the crinkled up $10 I RAN back into the store with to purchase the $500 winner, so really it's only $30 for the bulk of this experiment)
total #of tickets played: 46 @ $5 each(i kept rolling my smaller winners into more tickets)
total # of losers: 25
total # of winners: 21 (totalling $674.00)
total days played: 11
total take home profit: $460
a fluke? perhaps ... but there is alot to be said for strategy backed by knowledge of the games. This is where scratch is far superior to pick number games in my opinion. They regularly give you your money back, allowing you to try your luck once more(for the same money). In the above experiment I spent $30 on 44 $5 tickets($10 on the last 2) which has a grand prize of $150,000, 18 of which are still outstanding.
folks, when you are playing on house money for 75% of your game ... you can't go wrong.
get with me and let's win some cash and have a good time! good luck to everyone!

Hey!
I and a couple of guys I work with always play scratch offs. We only play $2 Jumbo Bucks since the website shows it has the most winnings left. I hardly ever, if at all play anything else. Let's share, tips and ideas.

First off congrats on your win!
Sounds like you are sticking with my favorite, Giant Jumbo Bucks.
When I plop down $5 for that game, I like to think of it as a 'pass line bet' in craps...or maybe a $5 blackjack bet. Obviously we live too far from Tunica or Vegas to bet on a regular basis, so a 5-spot on a possible $150,000 win has to suffice in the mean time.
I hope your strategy continues to pay out for you. I have read of a big winner in Florida, a guy name Richard Lustig I think, who has also written a small 40 page pamphlet/book who says to re-invest your winnings. I find this hard to do since well, I just dont win much! lol. Seriously, i do reinvest more in mega Millions, Powerball, and Tennessee Cash more than I do scratchers. But this guy has won I think 7 large prizes (nothing over a million I dont think but still very large prizes). His main strategy is to reinvest but he doesnt say exactly how much so its hard to tell exactly how he does it.
I like the $2 jumbo bucks as well since as MikeHopps points out there are more of those prizes remaining. Seems the 'Jumbo' Series of $2 and $5 variety are the way to go. Jr Jumbo isnt bad either but for me I aim toward a heftier prize. Millionaire Jumbo sounds nice and all but $20 a pop is pretty steep.
Now this new $10 Jumbo Jumbo is out and hopefully it will be loaded with good prizes too like it's cousins. It just came out today. I got suckered into buying one (ok I suckered myself but whatever) and of course won nothing on it. The top prize is $300,000 but I hope they put on the website soon that it has tons of other prizes.
Good luck on winning more, welcome aboard ,and keep us posted!

New $10 Jumbo Bucks! I'm excited!! I'm always hesistant to buy larger priced tickets because I only buy one when I do. I figured that's not a good strategy to win. I've also go in with a group at work to buy a whole roll and won less than half of the money back. Any tips of the top of the head anyone?

hi everyone ... wow i was suprised to see replies. i waited for a day or so and never got an email notify of replies so i assumed it sank. great to read all of your comments ...
i have been chewing through some Giant Jumbo's .... and oddly, my streak of luck ended about as quickly as it started. And the odd thing, it occured exactly on September 1st. I was flying along pie in the sky, playing dozens of tickets for very little investment, until the 1st and then i began scratching 5-6 even NINE losers in a row! ... now, those nine were in fact on $2 jumbo's, but i did it twice in a row. $20 worth is 10 tickets=1 $5 win and 9 straight losers. Tried again at a diff locale, a free TICKET and 9 straight losers. I like the odds and the number or prizes remaining on $2 jumbos the best, but there are literally trillions of tickets out there ...
over the last two weeks I have scratched a $30, a couple $20's and a few $10's and $5's ... plenty of free tickets. But they are farther and fewer between. Until the 15th rolled around. Stopped for 2 giants, hit a JUMBO $10 for a quick $50 on one, free ticket on the other. The very next day I grabbed my first JUMBO jumbo and hit a jumbo $20 for a $100 payoff. On the first ticket I bought. Since I have bought 3 more and gotten 1 loser, 1 loser, 1 $20, 1 free ticket.
so, the first of the month tanked. I probably spent $200 and got very little back. Until mid month, and now I've nearly recoupped my losses. I have a theory. If you look up at the winners they sometimes post above the register, if you notice the win dates on many of the payoff slips, it will be the 20 something'ith of the month. I'm serious, if you look, and things are the same way where you play, you will notice it too. I think, and this is pure speculative conjecture at this point, but I think that the winners come later in the month. Toward the last week. When I won't that $500 last month, I went back into the same station later in the day to buy a soda or something, (i hadnt mentioned to them I had won) and I noticed a lady cashing in a $500 dollar win right in front of me. I asked her about it, she had won on a $2 jumbo at a different station.
coincidence? perhaps. But, worth keeping an eye on. If upcoming months show the same pattern, I'll be playing a lot less during the first half of the month and investing my funds at the end. One very, very long shot hunch I have about his theory is that ... lots of people get some sort of check at the first of the month. Retirement, SS .. etc. So there are alot of players plunking down the jack around the first week of the month. To prevent all these people from winning out, they could somehow move the hot rolls to later in the month, when there is a more consistent and steady flow of cash from all avenues. That's a stretch, I know ... but, it could happen, lol. One lady that tends a station I frequent told me that the lottery 'guy' comes around late in the month. to be continued...
- Does anyone else get sick of flipping back and forth from the "Instant Games" page on the tnlottery site to see the odds of the games, and then having to flip back to the "remaining prizes" page to find the game all over again to see how many payoffs are left? Well, I got sick of it so I made an excel of all the tn scratch games and included all the pertinent info on the same list. Even did some "mathmetizin" to come up with some possible scientific conclusions(lol). I can't seem to get it to copy and paste into the forum so if any of you are interested give me a shout and I'll pm/email you a copy. My overall conclusions as to odds vs cost are the following. The game with the absolute best win ration is $1,000,00 casino #326. A $20 cost with 1 in 2.59 win ratio. The absolute worst win ration is $100 bank note at 1 in 4.97($1 cost). The best odds of a $10 game is 3.15 for JUMBO jumbo bucks (buuuuuuuuut giant jumbos are a 1 in 3.27, and half the cost, so) ....The best win on $5 games is GIANT jumbos with 3.27. $3 games with the best win ration is crosswords at 3.42. $2 games with the best odds... drumroll .... Lady Luck, at 3.94 (but there is only one $25k jackpot left and only about $15k worth of prizes $100-$500, so it's over)
- For the amount of prizes alone, $2 jumbo bucks has the most amount of prizes. 33 $50k jackpots, 12,645 $500 paydays and 30,340 $100 payoffs.
- Conclusion. When you couple the win ratios with the amount of prizes left, Jumbo bucks of any denomination seems to be the one to watch. But bewarned, there are only 3 $300,000 jackpots for the new JUMBO jumbo ... while the GIANT $5 still has 16 outstanding jackpots of $150k. Thats 900,000 in prize money for a $10 ticket, compared to $2.4 mil in jackpot prizes for a $5 ticket. The odds of winning are very close as well, so for my money I'm sticking with the GIANT. But it never hurts to grab a JUMBO as well. They DO pay, as my little $100 first timers luck ticket showed. But don't fall for the old "i have paid $10, there has to be a winner here" idea. ENNTT. Doesn't work. lol. I learned that on the $20 millionaire bonanza after I was totally appauled that I had spent $40 on to back to back tickets, both losers. And FYI, the $2,000,000 bonanza is a mandatory "take it in payments" payoff, NOT a lump sum. And from what I've read, it's a slow "payer-backer". Too rich for my blood. But nonetheless, if you pull a loser on a $10 game, it's ok to chase it with one more pull. Another $10. BUT THATS IT. If you pull loser #2 ... RUN. Don't sit there throwing $10 after $10 until you finally hit something. It won't be enough to cover your investment.
- If you can get a visual of the side of the ticket books, always, ALWAYS. buy the last couple of tickets off a roll. They usually contain winners. My first two tickets I ever bought were #58 and #59 GIANTS ... a $10 and $15 winner. ... the first ticket ZERO is usually always a dud. I am also convinced that 12-17 is a special place in the ticket count for especially high dollar tickets. This assumption is what took me back in to the store to buy one more ticket ... #14 ... that hit the $500. Without this inclination.... I would have missed out.
- Also, Don't buy multiple tickets and go home to scratch em. Say you plunk down $20 for 4 giants, go home and the first one is a $20 winner followed by 3 losers. You wasted $15. Instead, stay near the retailer, scratch one ticket and try to get onto house money first thing. Chances are it will be a loser, but then again ... you may have walked in right behind the guy who just took 3 losers off the roll. Why buy more than you need to win? The only way to combat that is to buy em one at a time. Aggrevating a know, but it works. GET ON HOUSE MONEY and you will play for free.
- Retailers with multiple rolls of the same game, numbered, pose a different kind of challenge, as well as opportunity. At the 3 stations I frequent, station one has 3-4 rolls of giants all the time, station 2 has two rolls, and station 3 has one roll. I have won more times at station one with it's multiple rolls. Sometimes I can look in there and see that a roll is about to run out and I'll buy the last couple of tickets. Sometimes I'll buy the last 9-10 tickets. Starting with 50. I usually hit a couple free tickets, pay $20 which, gets me to the last 2. Which usually have a nice little $20-$40 bang bang. Some people will ask, whats the point of scratching tickets just to break even, or at best win a few bucks. The answer is simply, the more tickets scratched, the more jackpots revealed. One day, when I've scratched enough, the system will pay me back and produce a large ticket. It's inevitable. The trick in the meantime is to spend as little as possible, while chewing through as many tickets as possible. Losers, winners, pushers, .... they all pay, in some small way. Because as soon as a loser is revealed, the odds for the finding a winner then silently, but surely, for everyone playing .... increase. Just like it's impossible to win if you don't play, it's also impossible not to win, if you do play.
- One last thing I want to mention is 'play it again'. I'm surely, SURELY ... keeping all these losers .... but I'm NOT, repeat ... NOT ... entering any more tickets into the system until it gets closer to the time of the next drawings (jan of 2012, i beleive) ... the reason for this is simple. The lottery folks aren't doing that because they are nice, they are doing it because having the losers entered back into the system gives them ALOT of juicy info thats valuable to them. Once again, speculation on my part, and I hate the idea of entering 4-5 thousand tickets into the system the night before the drawing, but I won't take a chance on keeping the very enemy I'm competing against informed as to where certain ticket rolls are, how deep into the game they are becoming, who should be producing a jackpot winner soon, etc. Not gonna do it. Probably nothing to it, but if you can't tell, I'm superstitious. So, just to be safe, my tickets are being filed for the time being.
- finally, DONT pay money for either of those 'lottery scrathers guide' crap thats online. I paid $17 for one of them, and it wasn't enough to substantiate the download. The guy didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, the font in the ebook was huge, with double spaces and gaps big enough to drive $17 bucks through. SKIP IT!.... just come on back here and read up on tennessee scratch off .... together, we can win this thing and flip off the economy! LOL ... let's hit a jackpot, ON THA HOUSE!!!!
-
i wantedt to also mention "parking lot losers" ... tickets people throw out the window at the gas station. I have started collecting these, and have picked up probably 30-40 in the last few weeks. 99% of them are eligible to be entered into play it again for a jackpot drawing. If you truely want to play on the house, with zero investment, this is the way to play. To be honest, I'm pretty excited about the number of losers I posess because it's obvious from the number of losers on the ground at the gas stations, that lots of people either arent aware or dont think it's worth the trouble to play the ticket again .... the more that think that the better (except for us, lol) ....
imagine gettin the phone call that your parking lot loser, that you took the time to bend over and pick up, just cashed you out at $150,000 ...ON THA HOUSE ... (or, on the dummy who threw it down, lol .... just as good)
-
its been a rough couple of days, scratch speaking. I'm down $85. My last 2 days of tickets:
Giants:
loser
free ticket
loser
free ticket
loser
loser
$5
loser
$7
loser
loser
loser
$7
a little better on the new JUMBO JUMBO:
loser
$20
loser
loser
$15
loser
i also scratched a couple of $2 jumbos as well, both strikes. I have done some calculating and have come to the conclusion that at this rate of loss, I would be better off going half on entire books of tickets ($300) ... the details of the financial risk/reward are as follows:
going half on a book would cost $150 (x2) sheilding me from half the risk, but still giving me a 50% stake in all the winnings. And the object for me is tto find the big tickets. These $5, $10, $20 winners really don't interest me (my problems are bigger than that, lol). That;s why I keep rolling the small winners back into more tickets. That method led to finding a $500 ticket on a 2 ticket pull. So, it can work, but the odds are always against it, because anytime you buy 1 or 2 tickets, the big winner is always ALWAYS the next ticket.
From what I've read from posters who have bought entire books, there is on average a 57% return of the face value purchase. On a $300 book of average tickets, at 57% return, you are only risking $171 to rip the entire book ($85.50 if you are going half). Guess what, I've already spent $85 in two days of pulling loosers off the rack. With little to no chance of hitting the big tickets, because of the nit picking fashion that I'm using to buy the tickets. Now, if the books are reflective of their individual tickets, and the tickets have odds of winning at 1 in 3.27, then I can only assume that the odds are the same for buying books, ie. if you buy 4 books, there should be a cold loser, a medium loser(57%), and hot winner (100+%push), and a much rarer(1 in 16 odds because this is the book that is representive of the .27, which means it will only show up once in 4 tries of choosing between 4 books). The .27 in the odds 1 in 3.27 is like the green spot on a roulette wheel, and it's the little bugger that throws the odds in the favor of the house. Hit one of those books and you'll find alot of winners. Maybe not a jackpot winner, but still, way more than your investment price. It's very possible that jackpot tickets are buried in the cold books. Which leads me to another perk of buying the entire books: Once you've scratched the entire book, you can then visually study the way the computer spits out the losers vs winners, and once you've done it enough, you should then be able to once again 'nit pick' single and double pulls, and actually be able to perhaps see similar patterns in the few tickets you get, and make determinations as to what is about to happen on the roll. Lets not forget, these tickets are printed by computers and as such, must adhere to some sort of process(even if that process is labeled as "random"). That process can be discovered if enough of the existing tickets, one clinging to the next, are studied.
By purchasing an entire book you are greatly increasing your chances of finding the larger tickets. Cold hard money speaking, you're gonna win and loose at the same exact rate, but this perk, finding the larger tickets, throws the odds in your favor of walking away, one day ... a big winner. I'm not buying any more single/double pulls. If anyone would like to go halves in east tennessee hit me up, we can work it out.
If you think tennessee's lottery is tough, you should bounce over and check out the games on the NC and SC websites ... compared to TN, they suck! SC even has a $5 Giant Jumbo, looks exactly like our $5 Giant Jumbo, but only has a payout of $75k, and only 3 of them left, and only 8 to begin with!!!! Our TN $5 giant pays $150k and still has 16 outstanding winners. SC's $2 jumbo's you ask? check it out compared to TN:
$2 jumbos: SC $50k has only 5 winners left, compared to 33 remaining in TN. SC $500 has only 193 remaining compared to 12,645 (twelve THOUASAND), and SC $100 has only 1,539 remaining compared to 30,340 in TN (thirty THOUASAND)
the odds are more in the favor of the player in SC, but there isn;t any prizes left as is the case with the $2 jumbos, and the prize amounts are half such as in the $5 jumbo(with very few remaining). In NC, the odds SUCK!!!! BAD! ... in NC the odds on Ruby Red 7's is 1 in 3.93 but in TN the same exact game has the odds of 1 in 3.30. Over the course of a 60 ticket book, that's the difference in 15 winners in NC, and 18 winners in TN. Three extra winners, could be the difference in getting your investment back, or hitting the big one.
i hope you're all having good luck out there! ..... -ed

HELLO TARHEEL1, I have scratched on jumbos and won nothing. i don t play those, I like the ruby 7 s right now. no big wins. glad to hear you got a big ticket, thats great!!!!! (everyones dream) i don t buy scratch much anymore . when i do buy i only buy 1 or 2 . win or lose i walk away. lose more than it s worth. also i think it depends on where you buy.
-
hey PATTYH ... you'll be tickeld to know that ruby red 7's in tennesse are 1 in 3.30 and the same exact game in nc has the odds set at 1 in 3.93 ... both similar games, however in nc the top prize is only 70k ... in tennessee the top prize is 77,777, as you well know. BUT, there are only 2 top prizes remaining ... in both states. It concerns me when the top prizes get low in quantity. It's possible that they ahve already been discovered and put back ... or its even possible they have been destroyed accidentally. The great thing in the giant jumbos is theres still 15 or so top prizes of $150k ...This past week i took a trip downeast to wilmington via SC ... and decided to have a look at the north and south carolina scratch games. SC first ticket i bought was a $5 and it won me $25. I took that $25 and spent it $5 and $10 at time throughout the 2 states and never hit much of anything else. I don't tlike the grand prizes in sc ... they are half of tennessess games and fewer in quantity. And lets all be honest here, we want to hit a jackpot. A hundred bucks is nice ... five hundred is a sweet little week ... but when we start seeing numbers followed by a coma and three zeros, ... its gotta be exciting. On a side note, NC's lottery blows ... the odds are nearly a point higher in the states favor and the selection is pitiful. Just like their gas prices, NC sucks ... and i say that as a native north carolinian. lol ... So, I found two friends to split a book 3 ways. $100 each. I have the book in my possession and we gonna start scratchin immediatley. Theres no way to defend against all loss in any form of gambling .... the odds are always with the house. But there are ways to sheilf yourself from enough loss that you can sustain your losses longer, in hopes of finding a big paying ticket. But, if truth be known,
if you bought every single ticket a certain gaime offered, you would be gauranteed to lose more than you won, because the favor goes to the state. if it didnt, they wouldnt bother printing tickets. So, ive sheilded myself from 66% of the loss of the book we purchased. While maintaining a 33% stake in all payouts. . ... to be continued. good luck out there ; )

hey tarheel1
I accutely profer NC lottery over TN lottery..I live right on the border of NC and VA I try to play more in those states rather than TN
I have hit better in those states espically where i live in Tn We hardly ever see and big winners up this way, we find 100s and a few 500s every once in a while but not like we do in NC or VA.
But it is easier for me to play in Tn because I dont have to waste the gas to go to another state to just play the lottery
GOOD LUCK TO YOU
Win or lose its a game of chance
-
hey mz ... what games do you like? I've been playing the jumbo bucks series
here in TN but I couldnt find it in NC ... what NC games do you prefer? .... oh my goodness I haven't even thought about checking the odds/payoffs in virginia!!!!! WOOOHOOO! ... lol ... don't ya love livin in one of these little multi state corners of the universe? ... i'm over in new market, just west of jeff city! so we could literally hit ...ahhh... lets see. GA, SC, NC, VA, TN, ... any other good states? ...

whilst here and logged in I may as well go ahead and post the results of our first 3some (book split, that is ... lol) ....

Ugggg K … the bottom line on this is pretty much what I expected considering everything I’ve read, although I was hoping for better than average. But to be honest, the pattern close to the end of the book is what made my stomach turn. We were on track to nearly break even, until numbers 38-47 spit out TEN STRAIGHT LOSERS. Then, after the obligatory $25 win on ticket 48 … ANOTHER ….ten straight loser run from 49-58 culminating in what I was hoping was a big 59 ticket because of all the preceding losers, but naught, a lousy $5. A person who bought just tickets 0-37 would have spent $185 and recouped $125. The poor sap who walked in and bought numbers 38-59 would have spent $120 and only recouped $30. This gives us quite a bit of insight into ‘nit-picking’ protocol … I never thought in a million years that a $5 game would have that many losers in a row. I’ve seen 9 losers in a row playing $2 jumbos, but that’s to be expected in a lower priced game. Bottom line, this was an average to cold book(so much for the luck of Joel, he did pick this book, out of 3 selections). A couple more winners, and it could have easily been an average to warm book. Regardless, we took 60 more tickets off the shelf and it cost us $48.33 each (the price of about 10 tickets, 10 tickets that … apparently could have all been losers, wouldn’t that suck). If one of us had bought that book straight out it would have set them back $145.00. I don’t feel good about this first go around, but just like scratching individual tickets, you have to take the losers in quantity to make it to payday. And honestly, I’ve hosed $50 in one gas station ‘nit-picking’ parking lot session …and drove off without giving a <snip>. It really isn’t the end of the world …especially when you consider the chance we have of finding a large payoff. $50 for a stake in a 60 ticket $300 book? Any day … because I know that sooner or later, the system will pay us back. The difference in winning and losing is finding the winner, before the losers find us. And by splitting the losses by 3 it allows us to shield ourselves from all those losers and play longer, because it makes our pockets 3 times deeper. And the person with the deepest pockets always wins in the end. Good luck out there ya'll ... end of the month, bout time for a biggie.
