Hi Everyone-
Long time follower for the forum and now decided to do a post and to contribute to the community. I have been playing California lottery scratchers for a very long time. I am in San Francisco bay area and the store I visit is a store dedicated to selling CA lottery products (daily draws and scratchers). They make money off of commissions. The have multiple televisions for the Hot Spot draws and have every scratchers laid off in rolls. With that said, they have never had a grand prize winner for the big draws (MM, Powerball, Super Lotto). I About a week ago, when the WOF scractchers got released, I brought about 15-18 $10 WOF and did horribly bad. I also wasted about another $150 on a various scracthers. Total loss for that day was $320. What is worse is that after 10-11 WOF $10 scratchers I wasn't able to concentrate that much. On some, I forgot to scratch the instant $100 spot. In that store, there is a proacher who goes around and doesn't buy much and just collects the scratchers for the second chance drawing. He looked over my losers and he was able to "steal" $100 from me as he scracther off the instant $100 spot that I forgot and hit $100. The irony of that is that 1) he needs the $100 more than I do 2) I think I would of given it back as I was down in the hole so much. Definitely adding insult to injury. I am still pissed off about this and I have told myself not to go to the store again. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise. I am big on the poker games and the crossword games. For weeks, I would purchase 7 $3 crossword puzzles (different colors) and have had good success with that. I think all I need is one $20 winner and everything else is gravy. I do attest with you all that WOF is horrible as odds are worse and the royalty factor. However, I did hit $100 tonight on a $5 WOF. My advice is too lay off the WOF game and I have been trying to quit playing or reduce my play.

Welcome
Sorry about the poacher. The stores that I go into you aren't allowed to remove discarded lottery tickets from the trash can. I am glad because people would probably be fighting over them. Glad WOF did hit for you. We haven't played it again and won't.
This is a lesson to us all be careful with your scratchers. I was given this advice by a gentleman who is a daily scratcher player always scan you tickets at the machine before you discard them. You can miss something.
What other scratcher games do you like to play? Good luck

Lately, I have been playing a lot of crossword puzzles a lot because I think it last a bit longer. I buy $20-$30 and take it home. Drink some alcohol and scratch away. There are many small prizes such as a $4 win for a $3 scratcher. I average about a return of 50%. But if I decide to scratch at the store, I sometimes do get myself into trouble. When at the store, I just do it randomly andIplay everything.

California is not doing well with the Scratchers right now and consumers are showing their annoyance with their wallets. It was a big failure with the Black promotion and the WOF game has been horrible. Two of the high volume retailers that I buy from have said it is yet another disaster. One told me that a guy bought a brick and the best he did was a $20 winner out of the whole brick. The other said that they are already seeing people pulling back purchases on Scratchers altogether. Lucky For Life has been a fail as well.
It will be interesting to see how the CA Lottery deals with this because they are losing a core client base with these poor ideas and games.

Welcome to these forums.
I've had a bad outcomes with WoF as well, just 2 winners out of 20 $10 tickets. Sorry to hear about your losses and the poacher. I have a habit of taking all my tickets home and entering all the codes into 2nd Chance Draw so I never miss out on winner or loser.
Once that WoF promotion is over, I am done with it.

Thanks for sharing from your high volume sources (I know the CALottery treats them with the utmost care). I had the feeling scratchers are going downhill.
I do not think the CALottery can do anything about gambling in general, or the long term harm it creates on players. Those big wins are mostly funded by the hardcore players who are not rewarded for their play. Sometimes it takes some time to come to a realization that it is not too worth it anymore.
I personally think now Fantasy 5 is slowly becoming CALottery's best game they offer.

I would love to know just how clueless the folks are up in Sacramento. Why they constantly ignore the painfully obvious fact of how incredibly stale and boring the Scratcher games have become. Don't they have a product design team to generate some new ideas to come up with more interesting--and more importantly, better paying games? Every state which sells instant tickets completely mops the floor with California when it comes to the variety of games.
And no, the same ticket in a different color--Tripling Crossword, 5X Crossword, Bingo--does not count as a new game.

My 2nd Chance play got me an offer to do a survey (no, it didn't pay a gift card or anything). They had me review two "new" types of scratchers. One was just like CA Black and CA Gold, an average $10 match-a-number thing. The other used words instead of numbers, if it said "YES" you won, anything else you didn't.
I thought they were both garbage and I told 'em so. If they've got any sense they're reading forums like this one, too.

It's sad that no one is paying attention to what the consumers want. The games are boring. I think they should offer some type of prize for completing surveys. It has me wondering if the top prize tickets are sitting in some warehouse waiting to be distributed.
