People's stupidity never ceases to amaze me.
So I went to a place that I frequently buy tickets at and know the people who work and own the place enough that we talk a bit. I walk in today and find out a recent hire is now a former hire and likely to be arrested. Why? Well... it turns out that in his infinite wisdom that person seemed to believe he could steal scratch off tickets and get away with it.
Seriously. The most trackable item in the store.
Serial number on the ticket shows FL Lotto where it went, the store knows how many books they got of each and the book numbers. They inventory the count at the end of every shift. Every ticket is rung up by UPC - so they have a record of how many of which tickets were sold. There are cameras that show the tickets and the register. And this person (as it was told to me) stole over $3,000 in tickets IN ONE SHIFT. Grain of salt - maybe that's the total loss they discovered and not just from one shift.
But how dumb are people? As if all that tracking isn't enough, odds are high that where ever the person was planning on cashing them in at has cameras too. And I have little doubt that FL Lotto could provide the police the locations any stolen tickets were cashed in at, or attempted to be cashed in at if it's after they deactivated them.
I just don't understand how someone would think this would work.
Well with $3,000+ stolen, you are talking whole books. If from the safe or from the display, someone would notice. Maybe he thought he would win big, cash in and pay for the tickets. That would not work, especially for any delay needed for $600+.
About the only way this would "work" is if he was a foreigner and flying back home that day or the next. That would still involve scratching and cashing in 100's of tickets. If any 600+ winners, he might have trouble with them at the lottery office. Here in Illinois, something similar happened and that is why ALL ticket vendors have publicly available scanners. A guy went in to have a ticket checked at a gas station. The guy behind the counter said it was worthless or some low value. The ticket was worth a $Million or more that the clerk cashed then flew back to Malaysia or someplace. Law suites happened, don't know the results except the public ticket checkers. Ours say "Sorry, not a winner", or "You won X Dollars" for under $600 and "File a claim" for $600+
For laughs and giggles, feel free to search for "stupid criminals" on youtube.

Well I took a shot at the $20 Monoploy game today. Bought about 30 tickets total from different locations. Highest book number was 817,260. The rest were in the 800-808k range. In any event, outside of two $100 winners and a several $20-$30 winners, nothing impressive. Just a very difficult game to play.

I’m seeing books as low as 705 and as high as 815. Nothing world beating too.. lots of trains with $40 being normal and a few $100s cycled thru 40-50 or so tickets this week. Which is fairly good on recycling like $300. Was able to pull a GO symbol off to the side once and still have it. Best part was on a run down from when I had $70 in winners and said screw it and got 7 $10 GRD and got a $250 winner.

That is actually a better than average return for one of the $20 Monopoly books. At least you got either 2 $100 winners or a $200 win. When my co-worker and I split a book, we ended up with $345 because we have one $100 winner.
I suspect that the population of books will largely disappear within the next 30 days. If the top prize is not won by then, the game will become scarce. Also, there is a greater risk that the top prize was destroyed or thrown away.

Top prize destroyed? That's not fair... I would hate to play a game thinking there are more top prizes then there really are.
It is very disappointing when a game is ended with top prize(s) remaining unclaimed. This happened with the $25 100X, Super Millions and $200M Spectacular (among many others). In some instances, people just throw away the ticket without realizing it was a top prize. The instant liability reports very strongly demonstrate that people throw away millions in prizes from bottom to top tier prizes when the winning ticket is a single number match. For example, one of "your numbers" is 21 and the 21 is also the sole match for the ticket prize. This does not apply to the same degree to some of the newer games like WCC which use a "coin" symbol to let you know you've won. Presumably people do not miss symbols. The result in WCC is that both top prizes were claimed and 45 of 46 $1M prizes were claimed.
However, the other wild card is that vendors like Publix and Winn-Dixie prematurely pulled the $20 Monopoly game from their shelves and vending machines. Those partially sold books are destroyed and there is no accounting for the lost prizes (including a top prize). So if the $5M Monopoly prize was on a vending machine in Publix and destroyed, we will never know and the game will end with the $5M prize being unclaimed. There also appears to be one $100,000 prize unclaimed as well.
In any event, I hope someone hits the $5M prize in Monopoly because the game is brutal to play and I want to stop playing it as soon as possible.

I think the $20 Gold Rush Doubler is a better buy for this reason. The last $100k prize was recently claimed on it (at a hot spot in Orlando, which also sold the first $5M on Monopoly). There's still 1 $5M, and 4 $1M prizes unclaimed. No funny business has happened to this game...yet. The significantly better odds at hitting $500 on this game than Monopoly also makes it a better buy. How many people here have hit a $500 or over on the $20 Monopoly? I know Risky hit his $20k recently, and I know of someone who won $500. Aside from that, I don't think I've seen anyone else post a $500 or higher on that game. The odds of hitting $200 are good, but anything higher and you might as well be playing the old yellow Lucky $200k/yr for Life. I feel I do better on that game than I do $20 Monopoly.
I'm getting bad memories from all of these games which ended with top prizes. With the millions of tickets sold, it seems suspicious that there's $5 games ending with 25% of the top prizes remaining. I'm actually impressed World Class Cash only has one unclaimed $1M prize, and if all top prizes are claimed that will be impressive although it is very possible that last unclaimed prize was from earlier in the print. Time will tell...
I hear there's a $30 Gold Rush game coming out in early 2019. It will be interesting to see what they do with the prize structure. It could have incredibly good odds, perhaps 1 in 150 at winning $500. I'd prefer that, along with good odds at winning $10k, $20k, and $100k compared to a monster jackpot prize. Since it is a $30 ticket, however, I have a feeling they'll probably be sticking with the $10M+ top prize to draw in sales even though.

DRACOS! You preach the word on here man. Exactly what I was thinking on everything you said!
The amount I have dropped on $20 monopoly probably would have been wiser to chase $500 wins on GRD.
But I will say I think we should look at the $10 GRD. Looks like it’s got some good mid level prizes left and it is like 93% sold out?
