Hey guys and gals, I'm back. I started playing some scratch tickets and only play Mega or Powerball now if it's over $150 million or around there and more. Glad to be back with the group.
If you check out the IL Lottery's FB page today, someone was complaining that he bought 4 of the $20 Gold Bullion tickets in a row numbers 000, 001, 002, and 003 and he didn't win anything and was very upset. The IL Lottery replied and they told him basically too not play that much because "the lottery, is by nature, a game designed to encourage large numbers of people to play small amounts of money for a chance to win big. It is not intende for players to wager more that they can afford to risk. The lottery is a game of chance created for the broader purpose of providing funds to benefit the people of Illinois."
I find their stance interesting yet predictable. It's amazing to me how many players I see day in and day out put $20, $30, $40 in the machine and keep going back to buy more. It's the way the IL Lottery and other Lotteries promote their games is why I think many people are upset, they make it seem like there are a lot more winners than there really are, which is one of the reasons I stopped playing scratch games. But if you are a smarter player, you will check the unclaimed prizes list available on the IL Lottery website every Monday and try to play the games that have the most prizes remaining, that's how I look at it...

When we were younger, my brother went to the carnival and saw a game booth. He saw people picking up prizes after a play. He thought winning was easy as playing the game. When he lost and was not given a prize, he ended up in an argument and later into stoning the booth.
Its the same thing with the guy who read the 1 in 4 odds and took it literally. My guess is that he's a newbie who is ignorant of how the odds are calculated; dividing total number of prizes with total tickets issued or an average.
In the eyes of the law, ignorance is not a defense. While its not a defense, its this ignorance and the manner the odds and prizes are advertised that attracts the vulnerable to the game. While it maybe morally repugnant to mislead consumers, the marketing folks were just doing their jobs. Everyone has a job to do and to earn your keep, you have to be good at it. And being good is measured in REAL DOLLARS ONLY.
The take away from this is, EVERYONE OUT THERE WANTS YOUR HARD EARNED BUCK ! IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT, YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD BY HOLDING ON TO DEAR LIFE FOR IT.
