Hi all
It's taking a bit more time for the 3 part as I have to figure out a pen and paper method of reducing the sets.
I have come up with a couple that are simple but ones needs to be able to make some counts that would be
very hard without software. I will most likely have to write a tool and post it for download but that means it
will take even more time. What I will most likely do is build a small program that will allow one to enter the
digits they want to play and the program will produce a sorted list of numbers from which the user will need
to select one or two from each line.
Here is an example for playing digits 1-2-3 + 5-7-8 for my 5-39.

01-02-03-11-12-13 <- select 1 or 2 from this group
12-13-21-23-31-32 <- select 1 or 2 from this group
05-06-08 <- select 0 or 1 from this group
15-16-18-25-26-28-35-36-38 <- select 2 from this group

Each set the user builds must use all 6 digits at least once. One can create 4 lines without using any number
more than once. This method takes around 8 lines to cover all the numbers. If the initial digits selected are
correct then this will produce some nice wins. You can build more lines which will increase the overall wins on
average but I recommend playing no more than 12 lines. A 5 digit setup will be a bit different. This tool will
not require a database but the user should maintain a history of about 20 games to use in selecting the digits
they will put into play.
The groups above are sorted by the number of times each number shows in the first digit run. Below is a list
of the totals for a 6 digit run using digits 1-2-3+5-6-8. Notice that there are 4 totals, 580, 776, 1310 and 1671.
Using the method above will format the lines in such a way that it decreases the match-0 and match-1 lines and
increases the ratio of winning tickets vs possible lines. There are 684 possible lines that can be built using this
method from the 5421 we started with. Keep in mind that to do well your digit selections must be very close to
those drawn. Some might say that there is no advantage in playing digits but take a look at earlier post where
I showed the side by side analysis. Both used 24 numbers and one could be hand picked or randomly selected
and the other used digits to select 24 numbers to put into play. The results as calculated assumed a 5of5 match
in the next draw. The digit-based 24 numbers out perform a regular 24 number selection in every test I have
ever ran. The reason for this is set formatting. We must remember that only one line will be drawn so why work
from a list of over 42,000 lines when we can get better results from 5421 lines. It's not that the 5 numbers drawn
are more likely to come from the 24 digit-based numbers then they are to come from the hand picked numbers as
both have the exact same chances for 5 correct numbers. It's a matter of the overall chances for one over the other.
This is similar to wheeling numbers but IMHO produces better tickets.
