You'll be 62 in December???
Why you'll be able to collect Social Security!!! But if you still work after you start collecting, you can only make $15,000 a year or they will penalize you! So if you're like me, 62 will come and go and you won't be collecting any Soc Security!! That's not such a bad thing though, because the longer you wait to take Soc Security, the more you'll get.
I'm going to start collecting Social Security next January. In the year you will reach your full retirement age, you can work, and earn about $44,000 annually. The good folks at Social Security wont penalize you for doing that. I'll be 66 in 2015, and because I'll reach my full retirement age of 66 in 2015, I can start taking Soc Security, still go to work everyday, and not be penalized unless I make more than $44,000. (Which aint never gonna happen cuz my employer don't pay anybody anything!)
Not sure yet when I'm going to fully or formally retire. Probably going to be a couple of years yet before I pull the trigger. My wife is 7 years younger than me, she's not thinking retirement yet, and we still have our daughter in college, so maybe I'll bail out in late 2016. We'll see.
Can you imagine how crazy I'd go playing the lottery if I started collecting Social Security now??? My lottery budget would go thru the roof!!! I'd be one of those Old Fools you see holding up the line in the convenience store cuz he's buyin' tons of scratch off's and calling out all kinds of numbers, and the clerk is punching that lottery terminal like wild! Then after I was done, I'd haul my thick stack of scratch off's out to the car, sit there behind the wheel, and start scratchin!!! Us retiree's aint got nuthin better to do....G5
