Is GOLD where you find It????
See, there’s this great ancient story about a young man who
spots gold in the bottom of a pond. He’s just walking by it one day and the glimmer catches his eye. Excited, he dives in, but finds only mud. His digging causes the water to become cloudy and he can no longer see, so he climbs out and waits for the mud to settle before diving in again.
Sure enough, he can see the gold glimmering beautifully at the bottom of the pond, and he dives back in. But once again, he finds only mud at the bottom and once again, the water quickly becomes too cloudy for him to see.
His father comes looking for him later that day and finds him wet, tired and staring at the pond. “What is it you’re doing, son?” the father asks, and the young man points. “There’s gold there, father,” he says. “I can see it plain as day, but once in the water, I can’t find it.”
The two men wait and watch. Before long, the mud settles and the boy shows his father the gold glittering at the bottom of the pond. The father sees the gold, but then looks up and around. He points to a nearby tree.
“What you’re seeing is a reflection,” he tells his son. “There is your gold, in that tree.”
Now, the reason I’m telling you this story is that our search for our true destiny is much like looking for gold in the bottom of that pond. We can see it, we know it’s there, we just can’t seem to get our hands on it, no matter how many times we dive in.
What we don’t realize is that we’ve become so invested in our methods, we’re missing the bigger picture. We’ll continue to work hard for example, because that’s what we’ve been told to do. We’ll continue to wait and be patient, because surely our ship will be coming in.
We’ll keep jumping in that pond, because sooner or later, we believe we’ll find our gold. But it isn’t there. To find it, we need to broaden our search, open ourselves up to new ways of thinking, and “look up.”
Our gold is in the tree, :-)
