The closest thing like that I have experienced is one time when the machine wouldn't read my playslip. The slip was filled out correctly but it wouldn't read so the clerk had to put the numbers in manually.

Other than that, never an issue.

Walmart was the height of incompetency if you hand your play slip to someone to process at the service desk. I did that because I had $4 back on a previous draw. Big mistake to do that at Walmart. The clerk ran the play slip first, and the terminal printed out my eight dollar ticket which she laid on the counter. Usually clerks run the winning ticket thru the terminal first, then they run the play slip. I was OK with the fact that she ran the play slip first as I was thinking that she'd simply open the cash drawer and hand me a ten dollar bill. After she ran the winning ticket, she opened the cash drawer and handed me $18.

I could have told her.... but I didn't. I took the 18 bucks, picked up the $8 ticket that she had previously laid on the counter and walked out the door. I didn't win a dime on my free $8 ticket. G5

That seems unlikely since they can't cancel tickets that are printed in error.

Call me crazy, but that seems even more unlikely. Maybe you meant to throw a "don't" in there?

You'd think that having the canceled tickets would be a requirement, even if the lottery only spot checks them once in a while. The pain of keeping and auditing the printed-but-canceled tickets is the only sensible reason for not being able to cancel any ticket a customer refuses.

This morning, at the Quick Trip, I inserted my money, then my play slips, it kept rejecting them.

Since I had my money in the machine, I went ahead and keyed in the numbers I had on my play slip, then, my tickets printed out?

Might be the way things are going?

I usually use the "replay" function but after reading the comments here, filled out a play slip with the three pick 4 combos each. The options on the slip are "day or evening", "how many drawings", future play, type of bet and for how much. I checked "evening, straight, $1" on one slip and "evening, box, and $1" on the other.

Had no problem and the clerk mentioned the store policy is not to try and play MM and PB call bets; said there were too many mistakes and those tickets can't be canceled. Another store will play MM and PB call bets, but tell the player, they must pay for any mistake.

Around here it's not "one size fits all" for selling tickets and most stores have at least one kiosk machine and most have play slip readers, but no replay feature. Most stores take pick 3 and pick 4 call bets; probably because mistakes can be canceled.

In some states the play slips were not designed by someone that is lottery savvy and believes everyone has 20/20 vision.

Yep. Not sure how it is now, but in the 90's when I worked an evening shift at a Shamrock we could write off up to $5 shift on tickets.

Although I've never refused a ticket that was created in error, it's my understanding (but I dont have any proof of it) that if the customer refuses the ticket, the cashier has three choices. Also, I've never had a conversation with any clerk in any store as to what their options are when a ticket is created in error.

That said, here's what I've heard/been told - The clerk can try to sell it to someone else, they can buy it for themselves, or they can cancel/void it. Years ago while I lived in upstate New York I read a story in a newspaper about a clerk accidentally generating a QP MegaMillions ticket with the Megaplier option added to it. The customer refused the ticket because they didn't want the Megaplier. The clerk decided to buy it for herself and after the drawing it matched the first five numbers that were drawn. So it was the clerk that won a huge prize. I recall someone I knew who had worked in a convenience store saying "It's a good thing she didn't decide to void it".

I've been in stores in both NY and Florida (I moved to Florida 3 years ago) where I've seen preprinted tickets for sale hung on a rack by the cash register. Because there are usually quite a few of them of them it's possible that not every ticket will be sold. I've never asked anybody working behind the counter, but I cant imagine the store has to reach in its pocket to pay for those tickets that didn't sell especially if they can void them prior to the drawing. Why would they do that if they can void them?

That's my individual reasoning but I cant offer any absolute proof as to whether or not a clerk can cancel/void a ticket. G5

So you got the $18 you won and walked away without paying for the $8 ticket? Who do you think paid for your free ticket?

Once in a while a payslip reader machine will not read one of my, mostly perfectly, printed playslips... And the clerk will want to hand it back... I find it interesting that most clerks don't know that, here in Missouri, the playslip reader can read a payslip from 4 different directions... So, I ask the clerk to rotate the ticket, low and behold, the playslip gets read correctly... I even ran across a clerk that did not believe, nor would try to rotate the payslip... I had to ask for the manager, who did place the playslip in the reader horizontally... PFM...

brah, your ticket was cursed because you didn't alert the cashier to her mistake. ask me how i know. i'm currently being haunted by the ghost of the inventor of ketchup because a hotdog guy accidently gave me an extra quarter in change.

Apparently hea in Ga., the Clerkz must not be able to cancel ticketz printed in error..

I once recently caught a Clerk attempting to sneakily get ME to pay for a MM ticket he printed in error somehow earlier that day..

He hid the $10. MM ticket behind my self-pick PB ticketz.. but before I left the premises, I checked my ticketz..Lo & Behold there it wuzz..hidden in the back of my Ticketz.

So, I went back to the Clerk, told him to give me my money back, and take hiz MM Ticket he tried to dupe me into payin for..

.He tried to deny that he slipped it in with my ticketz, but I immediately showed him the time printed on the MM ticket.. it read 19: Hundred hrz ( Military time) .

All my PB Ticketz read 21:50 sometin on'em...Naah , how in da Hell can I just now pay for a ticket supposedly MINE, that wuz printed some 2 hrz earlier?.... Ooooopz..!

I busted'im in front of uther customerz waitin in line..

People?,.. AlWaYz look at yo ticketz befoe ya leave the Store..

sneakily? dupe? Did he somehow force you give him $10 extra in the first place? Did you not know the cost of your self pick tickets?

Statz... Always know how much your tickets are going to cost you, and never give the clerk more than that amount.
