  living upstate I too thought the circulation was too limited. if you where not at the stores when the driver made the drop you be sold out.

  No, they could not find a buyer. Steve Allensworth had a "medical emergency" and could not assist with the publication. Roy Siano said it was too much for one person to handle, plus the increased expenses for columnists and printing and distribution had become unmanageable. Personally, I liked getting the online downloads - a day earlier than the physical copy (for the same reason Davelets mentioned). It would be great to see the combined issue(s) come back, but I don't see it happening. Lots of good tips and prognostications. Of course, Stan Rose got married and moved to Puerto Rico. His pointers helped me win good money in Take 5.

  Lotto News had some issues with distribution in addition to the ones Tique mentioned above.  Convenience store owners usually can return unsold copies of publications they put on racks in their stores for a partial refund of what they paid for it. A store owner I know personally told me that Lotto News/Stats did not pay for returned unsold copies so most store owners reluctantly took only a few copies of either Lotto News or Lotto Stats.  Store owners wanted to be sure they sold every copy they took, and that's why it was sold out so quickly in the stores that actually took it. Many stores refused to even carry it due to the high cost of a printed copy. So although the publishers circulation number was a closely guarded secret, it had been in decline for a long time. 

  Unless it could transition to an online subscription model and eliminate printed copies, it was doomed which is the same problem many local newspapers face.  They also badly needed a revenue steam from advertisers which they didn't have, and as a result the cost of a printed copy was escalating rapidly and was  approaching a price that sooner or later would make it impossible to sell in convenience stores.  If the price per issue had gotten to that price point, eventually every store owner would have refused to sell it.   

  After I had written a few guest columns for Lotto News, Roy Siano offered me a job to write a column which I ultimately did not accept.  He told me "We can't pay a lot for your services" but money wasn't the primary reason why I declined his offer.  While Roy never said anything to me about LN's future, my sixth sense told me LN was long past it's prime and was dying a slow death.  I think both Roy and Steve knew that too. The straw that broke the camels back came when Steve Allensworth got sick.  At the time both he and Roy were of retirement age.  As Tique mentioned, Roy couldn't handle the workload all by himself and LN's absolutely fabulous run was over. 

  If there is to be a revival of Lotto News, it could only be in the form of an online publication.  When Lotto news first started, Roy and Steve set out to get "The very best lottery columnists anywhere. AND THEY GOT THEM!  That's why it was so successful.  You couldn't find "Red", Stan Rose, Urb Kress and other excellent lottery columnists combined into one publication anywhere.  But time marches on, and life happens to everybody. To start an online Lotto News today would be nearly impossible.  Where can you find another Red or Stan Rose today?  I have no clue if someone like them even exists.  G5

  Social Media changed the way paper & ink publications are distributed or they went belly up. At some point one has to stop reliving the past and move on to the future.

  Yup...that's them.  That article appeared The WAPO in 2006 and it also found it's way here to The Lottery Post.

  Although I was a fan of Lotto News and its sister publication Lotto Stats, I found that I had the same stats/info at my finger tips on my PC with the copy of the commercially available lottery software I had bought.  For many New York players that didn't have software, Lotto Stats provided them a hardcopy of stats they couldn't find elsewhere, and I think that's the biggest reason why it was so popular.

  You're right too that Lotto News/Stats didn't have a better or worse track record than someone buying QP's. In the entire time the publication was available on newsstands I don't recall the publishers ever claiming they had a better track record than anybody else. But then IMHO when it comes to the lottery, nobody has a better track record than anybody else with their predictions. Many claim (especially here at The LP) they have a good track record, but my question is are they multimillionaires as a result of their self-proclaimed good track record?  I think not.  And if there truly are any multimillionaires with a good track record then they're probably smart enough not to brag about it here.  As for my lottery software, it's OK, but I'll still need a ton of old fashioned good luck in addition to my software to win a jackpot. (which hasn't happened yet)  I will say though that I've won many small prizes with greater frequency than my friends that don't have and use it.

  And I also agree with you not only did the internet kill Lotto News and Lotto Stats, but it's also in the process of destroying just about any form of news media, including cable TV.  Streaming anyone???  G5
