I hear ya, Ms. Pat. Caregiving is hard work, yet very fulfilling. Wish I could have given more time to my parents when they were ill. Though I loved them so much, I DIDN'T REALIZE, I could have done MORE for them...I could have given them more massages, more hot towels, more presence... just more of me.

I'll heed your suggestions and work on them right away. Will keep you posted. No, I did not apply for disability only because I have a hard time grappling with this disease. Perhaps I am in DENIAL or as you said, justx, my pride gets in the way. Frankly, I am trying to create a vivid vision in my mind that one morning I will wake up and find I am in good health and what I am experiencing right now is just one nightmare. Don't let pride get in the way. As TigerAngel suggested, maybe a local church or synagogue knows people who can help. I am sorry you are suffering so much.

Contact nursing homes and see if some of the workers want to make a little extra. They'll be experienced. God Bless You.

Honey, there are people around, more like angels, that love to take care of others like yourself. I had a good friend that loved old people and would work as a live in care giver for room and board only! Then when my aunt was terminal she wanted to stay in her home and they found a wonderful woman than moved in and cared for her. More recently my friend's mother had a wonderful live in care giver that stayed with her til the end. There is a way to find such people in the classified newspaper ads. The agencies charge too much. Have your friend help you find a person like this and check their references. That business with the wheelchair unlocked doesn't sound like a very "caring" person to me. Original Blog Entry: On Caregiving

Caregiving is a topic very fresh in my mind. Right now, I need 24-hour care. Since my health insurance doesn't cover caregivers, I take care of hiring my own - two caregivers at 12-hour shift at $288.00 per day. I'lll probably go bankrupt in a very short time.

Yesterday, caregiver, neglected to lock my wheelchair and when she tried to transfer me from bed to wheelchair, the chair moved away, and I fell to the floor. She hastily tried to pick me up and put me on the wheelchair, but again the wheelchair moved away. Not only that, my Bi-pap (ventilator) attached to my nose got dislodged, and the bi-pap and humidifier fell to the floor. Luckily, I had a visitor at that time to help out. He was right there at the right time.

My point in talking about this is that we do not pay much attention to caregiving, until we need it. I know I did not. There ought to be a way, but I don't know what.

Well, was just venting my frustration and helplessness, that's all.
