i check my number before i go to cash in a ticket but if the machine told me it wasnt a winner i would probably believe the machine but after reading these recent stories i would save the ticket and check it on another machine but maybe all of the machines were scanning the tickets as losers.

This error occurred when the vendor entered an incorrect draw date identification number, a lottery news release said Wednesday.

I'm a little confused. When I buy a ticket for any lottery game, isn't the ticket always for the next draw unless I buy some advanced play tickets?

I guess vendor isn't the same as retailer? So they are saying that you might have won something, but the number was programmed for a different draw date? This is a little over my head technologically.... [ More ]

Yep we have just entered our 11th month without a winner. (That's more than 90 consecutive draws.) And despite a lottery that has been riddled with scandal and corruption since it's inception...and a history of rigged games (albeit scratch off's) and the use of an RNG...and yet another mistake by an outside vendor...

It could happen!

Yeah! And monkey's might fly out my b*tt too!

This error occurred when the vendor entered an incorrect draw date identification number, a lottery news release said Wednesday.

The mistake could affect 201 tickets, most for amounts of $41 or $44.

This error did not in any way impact the actual drawing or selection of the winning Hoosier Lotto numbers, said Kathryn Densborn, the lottery's executive director.

It involved the calculation of ticket redemption values and the validation and payment of 4 of 6, and 5 of 6 winning numbers... [ More ]

That's dependent on the number of tickets sold. At minimum jackpot value of $1,000,000 the Hoosier Lotto's payback percentage is only 33.71%.

I wonder...

... how many of those winning tickets from June 23rd are still around, most of them I'm sure have been trashed.

...how many of those ticket holders relied on the machine to tell them if they won.

...who brought this error to their attention, probably someone who checks their own ticket and knew that they were a winner.

Another Vendor error cost the players money. In the immortal words of Baseball great Dizzy Dean:

By the way, the Hoosier Lottery's Lotto jackpot game has rolled again and is now in it's 11th month wothout a winner. I can see the headline and press release now:

Data entry error.

Winning Hoosier Lottery tickets totaling $12,935 may have been mistaken for non-winning tickets after two drawings this summer because of a data entry error, the lottery said Wednesday.

The mistake concerns ticket holders with 4 of 6 or 5 of 6 winning numbers in the Hoosier Lotto drawings of June 23 and Aug. 8. The error means that some of those tickets would have shown as non-winning entries when presented for redemption.
