This got me thinking... how much is he SPENDING on these scratch-offs?? I think that may be the key. And he's probably spending more now that he has more money. He could go broke soon.

Yet... I do like the fact that it is being proven you can win more than once. Several people have proven that!!

And the fact he won the $500 while waiting to claim his money, reminded me of an event that happened in PA: a guy won a Harley in a scratch-off. PA decided to have him in a commercial to advertise... [ More ]

I agree. Im just waiting to hear about the person who wins a 3rd Top Prize =) I have heard of people winning 2, but never 3. Not sure if its been done before.

Although most would stop after the first 2nd especially, but I wouldnt be surprised if someone did it 3 times.

$6.5 Million is just the lump sum. you have to pay 25% federal tax on that so you get $4.875 MM. So he ended up with slightly over $6 MM total.

Congrats...yeah the math on this one is $3mil + $10mil = $13mil, but since I think he took it as cash value, the math actually is ~ 1.95mil + 6.5mil = $8.45mil.

Anyway, the funny thing is I actually avoided playing the multi-million dollar top prize scratch if games (actually I avoided playing all scratch off games) since I thought the terms were disingenious. Wow, in Illinois, when the scratch-off jackpot is $3 million (no higher jackpots offered), that jackpot can only be claimed as an ANNUITY paid out over 26 annual payments! That's not as enticing as being able to claim a large portion of the annuitized amount (-35% reduction, as Florida allows) in pre-federal taxes lump-sum option.

Seems like the belief of you can't win a jackpot more than once, is being blown out of the water.

Jody Massengale won $3 million in November, playing a Florida Lottery scratch off game. Last week he did it again, winning $10 million on another scratch off ticket.
