Maybe stuff like this ('upset taxpayers' below) is why it is known as the People's Republic of Oregon.

BREAKING NEWS:

In a follow up story, one of those upset taxpayers said that if they won the jackpot in the Oregon lottery, they would buy the very same Mercedes and spend $75,000 to customize it.

, karinda, it was a poor business call for this lottery headquarters director to buy a vehicle ... let alone a foreign vehicle (what an absurd, mindless slap in the face to any U.S.A. resident customer -- their main customers/supporters)! If this Lottery Headquarters had canvased, they could have received, gratis, 1 or 2 similar vans even.

Gov. puts kibosh on expensive 'Lotto mobile'

Gov. Chris Gregoire ordered state lottery officials to return a $49,000 Mercedes that was supposed to become a Lotto mobile. Taxpayers were upset when KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Richard Thompson told them state lottery officials spent thousands on the Mercedes van and were planning to spend another $75,000 to customize it like the state of Virginia has done with a similar van.

The Boss thought it would be cool to have a fancy new toy and decided other people should pay for it.

Nothing new, happens all the time.

I think the $75,000 outfitting of it should include beer taps. They'd sell a lot more tickets that way.

buy the best van out their, with lest break downs and best reviews online

americans will never make the best their is, if they don't have desire to be be best, buying american just cease is #1 way to live in La La land,

as for lottery buying a mercedes to market them selfs, will good for them, radio stations, etc do the same kind of thing anyway.

Why buy anything? It was a golden opportunity to canvas all the automakers to see which ones would be interested in donating a vehicle. It's free advertising for them. It would have been a win-win. There was a scratch-off game in NJ a while ago to win a Harley. And there was another one to win a Ford ( I don't remember the model. ) It never even crossed my mind that the state paid for the vehicles, although, they may have. Some folks may think it's just a new way for Washington's Lottery to take suckers for a ride.

That's not quite the agency mission, insists Lottery director Bill Hanson. So what is it?

Hanson said Friday the agency bought a $49,000 Mercedes Sprinter van as a marketing tool to boost Lottery ticket sales at the Puyallup Fair and other big festivals where it sets up for marketing.
