maybe she'll tithe yearly till she reaches her 10%. I know I would never give to one church or any particular charity, millions of dollars, I'd rather spread it out. For $700000 I would rather give to multiple churches around my community that gives back to the community and not just pocket the $... or I could start my own church or charity and give my own donations to the church and write them off tax free knowing that the money would be put to use the right way.

I can't think of any reason a single church would need $9 million.

Because there are people in Africa who haven't heard of jesus. And apparently they're all in places that don't have any kind of airline service, but are close to an airport with a 6000' runway.

Don't feel sorry for her until you get all the facts? I don't think that a woman that used to work 3 jobs is surrounded by drug addicts and shady people, and especially since her win. I would be willing to bet she has talked to all the right people she needs to. And if your love one got in a bind would you desert them? You did get one thing right the county wants theirs

I'm trying to get it thru everyone's head that if you put up a bond for someone when they show up for court they get their money back. But what she gave to the church is tax deductible? So there is a possibility that she hasn't in reality spent a dime yet. We will see what the IRS says at the end of the year? If she doesn't get interest on the 9 mil. that will be tax deductible also. I think the federal government and the state has already got theirs? What it looks like is the county wants some... That's a good point about giving to church structure instead of one church. I thought about doing something similiar if I had won. I would spread it out between church organizations so the money is put to good use by reputable groups.

I'll tell you now that I'd give 10% to my church, but I would mean my church body. Not one individual church structure. Which is why I had to point this out because I don't want anyone calling me a hypocrite. My personal church does a lot for their community and the young people. They help pay for their education and distribute school supplies but they wouldn't need $9 million to do that. You can't paint all churches with the same brush. That would be like saying all priests are pedophiles or all pastors are okay with using offering money to buy a $65 million luxury jet.

My church puts a very strict limit on how much a pastor can be paid. Not a single one is making anything past 5 figures regardless of the size of their congregation. focus on them and when she is not busy with them volunteer her services to a local charity helping others

That would be the right thing to do. Also lord give her the willpower to walk away from that young man

The churches here are rich because of people who want to buy their way in to a great beyond. Most of the ones around here are very well set . I dont know what it is but sudden wealth makes one lose common sense.

Hot sauce is going to ride that train all the way to her bankruptcy.

I hope that Marie Holmes has found wise counsel. Financial, Health, Emotional counseling.

She should create a budget. Her first mistake was not taking the thirty-year payout plan. Marie would have been forced to follow a budget.

Now she must learn to say, NO! to many friends and family.

Yea, years ago I remember hearing a minister talking in the booth next to ours at a restaurant. I think the other person was a contractor or banker as he was talking about the 'housing allowance' he is given. The allowance went up by $500 a month, I think it went to like $4500 a month. His current home has been 'maxed out' and he needs to buy/build a new home or else he would lose out on the increase on the allowance. Disgusting

I have 3 reverends living in my neighborhood in million dollar homes and drive expensive cars like Mercedes and Jaguars and wear the most expensive suits and jewelry.
