What I take away from all that is I will definitely talk with a Certified Financial Planner.

I'm pretty sure that Edwards got plenty of good, and competent, advice.

I am planning on living on the earnings that my prize will get.

I'm not sure if Edwards ever planned on doing that, but if he actually did it he didn't do it for very long.

Why would I drive out of my way to play a terrible game?

If I want to win a large amount of money, I play live keno. A top prize of $100,000 that is easier to win is a much better deal. Even if I don't win, I accumulate points very quickly which can be used for free play or food. A convenience store never gives you that even if you throw away $1,000 on lottery tickets.

Bleudog101, I looked at the MM Annuity and Cash rankings. These new amounts will make the rankings for the Annuity $470 million #13 and the Cash Lump Sum $265 million # 17.

I used the chart that is at the top of this Post. When Todd creates the new MM hall of fame we will see if I am correct.

What are your plans for the Cash Lump Sum after all taxes are paid = $167,000,000.00

The California 5 + 0 prize was $1,276,474 last night but was split by two players. The California players playing for the second prize should only play when the jackpot is small. I know, I know that's opposite what lots of players do, but when more people play, it's more likely to have multiple second prize winners.

I read about David Lee Edwards using the Search box. What I take away from all that is I will definitely talk with a Certified Financial Planner. I will get help making the choice of Annuity or Cash.

I will start with www.financialengines.com Those CFPs are fiduciaries as well.

I am planning on living on the earnings that my prize will get.

Remember the 5 + 0 tier is in itself it's own jackpot. If no one wins at the 5 + 0 level the pari mutual amount growns to a million and beyond. Even if the jackpot is at $40M.

Often wonder myself how long it takes with the CA pari-muteul payouts they have for secondary prizes. This time it was just $638,237. A couple of weeks ago it paid over $2 million and the big jackpots weren't as high. Don't remember if it was PB or MM. No rhyme or reason to me, something their statisticians figure out

Yeah, that's right MegaBucks.it's been awhile.

That was really weird to see the jackpot advancing woth no one playing.....one of our Asian dealers thought a ghost was playing the machine!

(There was actually an incident in Vegas where a woman was scattering a 'powdered substance' around some slot machines.when security asked her what she was doing she said her aunt had been cremated and asked that her ashes be scattered in the slot section of a certain casino).

Last time I played Megabucks slot machine (not Megamillions) it was $3/pull. You are correct, the jackpots all read the same in Laughlin, Las Vegas, Reno and of course Lake Tahoe NV. Last time I was in McCarran couldn't find one, maybe in the smoking section which I won't frequent.

When one employee asked a shift boss how come Nevada doesn't have a lottery the shift boss' answer was very simple: The joints want it all.

The Nevada 'answer' to a lottery was the progressive jackpot MegaMillions machines. Bleudog101, I was inspired to create that acronym by Mark Gardiner. He won in Hastings, England. He told about the Green-eyed Monster Jealousy, Envy, and Resentment. How the people around him changed.

Money does change people that are around you. Mark made the mistake of buying a few friends their own homes. They turned around and sold them for the cash. Mark was quite upset about that.

Do you ever venture up to S. Lake Tahoe to play those 'awful' lottery games there? (I do when I visit).

Anyway it's a shame that your state Constitution forbids any kind of lottery. Casinos have a stronghold there. I will say so glad their Lobbyists were able to persuade the IRS to not lower the taxable amount from $1199 down to $600. So for that I am grateful to your casino interests out there.

When the cash value gets to $600 million, the game could be worth playing (1 in 300 million chance of winning $600 million is worth $2, equal to the price of a ticket). However, when the cash value gets that big, it means the fake jackpot is $1 billion. That sends hordes of people running to the convenience store to drop all the money they've got on lottery tickets. The result is multiple winners, and suddenly your $600 million is only $200 million.

The estimate has been raised to $420 million but the cash value of $237.1 million has a very different ratio than the previous estimate.

I noticed that Todd now uses the 24% figure on USAMEGA to calculate the first tax deduction. The automatic one for all States. That leaves 13% to still be paid by April 17, 2019, CA does not tax lottery winnings.

Both PB and MM are at decent prize levels. We are blessed with good fortune! LOL

Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing was a no-show for second prize winners too nobody matched 5 numbers without the Mega Ball for a $1,000,000 prize.

I did take note of this as well as the number of 4+1 winners with only one number that is not a birthday number this re-affirms for the umpteenth time that people play birthday numbers heavily.
