hard to believe State is Whining over lottery sales, when alot of businesses will close for good over virus. Think of How many people either not getting a paycheck or less then were getting or waiting for stimulus/ unemployment checks. Only thing Mass lottery is losing is CEO bonuses will be less, yes people will say money goes to cities/towns but how much as most cities/towns now have that money in general fund, no longer school funds as it was intended

Your last sentence sums it all up. What is the old saying 'cut off your nose to spite your face'? To me the lottery can't see the forest for the trees. Give it time, once MM is won and both have crappy top jackpots I think sales will tank even more.

Saw an article from Jan. 12, 2016 about the PB jackpot in How Stuff works. And the article explains why PB and MM will lose money if the jackpot is won in the first few drawing after the roll-over. Ticket sales in the last two PB drawings were about $32 million and if the figure 34% of every $2 in sales goes to the jackpot that created $21.12 cash jackpot. Under the last payout structure, the estimated jackpot would be $60 million and if anyone knows how someone could purchase a $60 million payo... [ More ]

Our State lottery is looking a lot more appetizing than ever before. That take home dollar amount is life changing. Always had this dream of retiring under the age of 40. I know l will tip a whole lot better once this crisis passes. I can see myself leaving a $20 tip for having a coffee a donut.

Same here and a crappy $5 million increase since no jackpot winner from last night. It'll never happen in a million years, but wouldn't it be nice if MM PB were more transparent? I mean CEO salaries, expenses, the whole gambit. Who here thinks like me that with the lower starting jackpots and lower rollover increases it will hurt the bottom line? I think and hope it does

Considering the Jackpot is set to 20 million and it's BARELY going up with hardly anyone playing, I'd say you better play Mega Millions now when it's sort of high. The lottery may not get above 100 million for months

My home state, still stuck in Puritanical ways, i.e. bars close @ 0100 comes to mind.

Deborah Goldberg had tried, unsuccessfully, to get the Legislature to approve on-line sales. Remember I wrote her a letter about the KLC? Of course it wasn't answered, but informed her how wonderful it is.

Though this is the 21st Century, in many ways we're way behind the 8 ball nationwide IMHO.

The lottery records all the transactions, but to be safe, copy all of my Online game purchases.

Food for thought. True all state lottery sales are down overall. Here's a strong suggestion to ALL state lotteries. Have more or higher payouts during the good times on a consistent basis, that way you will have your loyal customers still playing even when things are not so good. I totally understand the lottery is a business and just like any business there in to make a profit but that being said we're never going to get the whole pie. But people would like it very much if they got a nice slice... [ More ]

New Hampshire saw first-time players increase by 38% from February to March, with online lottery revenue for the same period increasing by 10%.

Anyone here have an opinion on online lotto?

Being from a state that is not online - its hard for me to imagine buying a lotto ticket online - not sure how I would feel about it.

The Massachusetts State Lottery is taking a big hit as the COVID-19 state of emergency temporarily shutters many stores that sell tickets, Treasurer Deborah Goldberg told lawmakers Tuesday.

More than 1,800 of the state's 7,500 lottery agents are closed, she said. Many stores that remain open have chosen to limit or eliminate lottery sales as a result of staff shortages.

Total sales last week were down almost 33% from the same week last year.
