it's possible that people put down all they had not thinking both games would roll.

When PB set its record in 2016 the last 3 drawings all got bumped up after the initial announcement, and topped out at 528, 948 and 1,586 million. Those last 3 drawings all had sales that were vastly higher than any of the drawings leading up to them. A lot of the sales were to people who hadn't played for the previous jackpots, but any previous players who decided to spend more than usual only had 3 chances... [ More ]

l picked up a few tickets for both jackpots this afternoon and was surprised that no one was in the store buying tickets. l got to talking to the clerk behind the counter and he said that it's been slow all morning, but the mad dash for tickets happened last Friday Saturday, said that it's possible that people put down all they had not thinking both games would roll. The guy has a point. All the best players, hope for this reaction..

Friday's jackpot will initially be advertised at 970 if it rolls, which is still the most likely outcome. Even if that's still not enough to get sales really cranking, there's a pretty good chance that sales will increase by the modest amount necessary to push the advertised jackpot past a billion.

Maybe if it rolls again on Friday we'll finally see an increase that's actually big.

in the build up to the $1.6b draw.. someone said only 83% of the possible combinations were covered

Lottoreport says that about 635 million tickets were sold. If they were all chosen randomly they would have covered nearly 89% of the combinations.

When MM advertised the jackpot at $1.6 billion sales were only about 370 million tickets, which could cover about 70% of combinations.

When sales are that high the deviations from random probably don't matter much, because 20 or 30 million fe... [ More ]

They sold almost 114m tickets in the last draw, so it will probably be more....

I'm thinking around 170.5m, but even that has about 57% chance of rolling

They could sell 400m tickets and still have a 26% chance of rolling

Of course, assuming nobody buys every combination....

The predicted cash payout has gone up by about $77.6million.. if 68 cents from every ticket (34% of ticket price) that suggests 114m tickets are going to be sold...

If every ticket was unique, then 114m / 302m ~- 37.75% chance someone would win big. But we know all tickets sold won't be unique...

So, fewer than 37.75% of the possible combinations will be covered..

I would expect the jackpot to be hit in the next three draws..

According to lottoreport . com sales for the last drawing were just a hair over $227 million, which is 113.5 million tickets. That would mean that a rollover was more than twice as likely as a winner.

It would also mean that the actual cash jackpot increased by about $75 million, which is well shy of the $98 million cash increase based on the advertised jackpots of 625 and 750. In turn, that would mean that the advertised jackpot couldn't have increased... [ More ]

Agreed, it's very surprising. Two draws ago, it went up twice from $600 eventually settling at $650 before it rolled to $750 and then nothing. Then it rolls again, only to $850? I'm really shocked it didn't hit a bil by now.
