It looks as though that tale had a happy ending! In 2012, it was reported that Patricia and her husband had reached a settlement. Although it might not have been the full $8 million, she seemed thrilled to receive a majority of the original prize ($5 million) and be done with the headache. For anyone else who might be interested, this is the story that Mata Garbo was referencing. Thanks for the throwback

Thanks LP for reminding us that today marks a decade since the sad story of the single mother Patricia Daly who was working 2 jobs in New York taking care of her 3 kids, when she suddenly won 8 million dollars, only to have her estranged husband show up and demand half the money. Preventing her from gaining access to the money until after all the court hearings were done. He did this even though he had abadoned the family a year earlier. Noise-gate......Thanks for the timely reminder that Powerball is now on Mondays. For some strange reason I keep forgetting that an extra draw day was added. If I had not clicked on the comment section 3 minutes ago I would have missed out on a chance to collect over 375 million dollars. That would have sucked. Congratulations to the very lucky South Carolina winner, spend it wisely.

It just so happened that some numbers mentioned in a television show were the lucky numbers a South Carolina player needed to win a $200,000 jackpot in the South Carolina Lottery's Palmetto Cash 5 game.

An anonymous South Carolina player was looking for inspiration for his lottery numbers when he saw a series of numbers mentioned on TV.

I saw [the numbers] on television, he told the Lottery a day after cashing in his winning ticket.
