Massachusetts has one of the highest number of players and one of the most profitable lotteries in the nation. I'm actually surprised there haven't been that many winners in the state, and the last time a jackpot for MM won was close to a decade ago.

MA spends a ton of money on marketing and advertising the lottery. Also, if people dug into the statistics, including number of tickets sold, they would see that MA was/is overdue for some jackpot and/or 2nd place (match 5 numbers) winners on both Powerball and Mega Millions. The statistics are simply reverting back to the mean. Unfortunately, the jackpot winners ended up winning at the lower end of the spectrum of prize amounts. Either way, if they're smart they'll be set for life.

statistically, if you do google search on which state spend money on lottery the most, MA would come up as one of states that spend money on lottery the most. which was a surprise to my (there're a lot of smart people in MA (MIT + high tech firms. I consider MA is a brain trust of US East Coast). Smart people don't spend money on lottery. perhaps, it has to do with a lot of Italian Mafia families based in MA

The original poster posted a bizarre unrelated graphic response to CEJ that was immediately deleted. I was pretty shocked and have never seen anything like it on LP. Then posted again about his love. I think any guy would have been disturbed by it.

Certainly everyone has a right to win the lottery including members with varying personal preferences. However LP is not that type of site. Lol

This seems too coincidental that the same state won twice, a week apart and an hour and a half distance. The anything can happen in the lottery argument sounds weak because the new lottery changes make it a practically infinitesimally small chance for this to happen, the large jackpots testify to that fact. * Never could understand the fascination with was it a qp or self pick? No one knows which numbers are going to be drawn, not even a machine. In chess, an engine can probably foresee the final outcome of the game after so many moves, but even it can be wrong at times. Just pick your numbers or loses and hope for the best.

Who would have thought, the northeast (one of the largest population in the world) has a higher chance of winning, than a state in the middle of nowhere with an overall population that is equivalent to a medium size city in the northeast. I thought this website was for people who understood basic statistics and how lottery is conducted, not leftover trolls from the intellectual sewage of our country.

Mega-millions jackpots odds are 1 in 302 million. I've noticed several jackpot and secondary million dollar prizes hovering around the NorthEast: Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey . The two back to back wins should certainly raise eyebrows.

I just tried to dream up a story about an MITer obtaining a lotto ticket printer and modifying the machine to print up a ticket with his numbers, but showing a QP, thereby masking how his/her numbers were picked. The MITer is working with an insider to rig the pick at HQ. The ball picking machine is rigged with magnets turned on at moment of draw. The MITer defeats the security through obscurity methods used at Mega Millions HQ.

You need to re-read the article again carefully. Nowhere in the article did it say both quick pick Mega Millions tickets were purchased at the same store. One ticket was purchased at the Stop Shop grocery store. The other ticket was purchased at Gibbs grocery store. These two stores are an hour and a half away from each other. Look somewhere else because there is NO conspiracy as you are suggesting.

Both winning tickets were Quick Picks, sold at stores about an hour and a half apart from each other.

My mistake on same person, but the same amounts due to the jackpot had rolled from the previous draw, which happens if there wasn't a winner.
