California too needs to revamp its laws, as many states have already done, and allow winners to claim anonymously/trust.

Bet there are lots of laws in your state law codes that are not in other states and vise versa. Just saying.

Spend a lot. Save enough. Invest the majority.

From 2 billion down to less than 650 million after taxes. If I can't buy a small city with that I'd definitely buy a neighborhood or partner with other investors and buy shares of neighborhoods. I guess I just want my own city.

Congrats to Edwin but it sucks to be in a state where you can't be anonymous when you win.

I'm grateful my state allows anonymous claiming. and It is essential California needs to join other states and pass a law to allow winner to claim anonymously or via a trust.

Because MM and PB tickets are sold in multiple jurisdictions, it's easy to forget each jurisdiction decides their own rules regarding claiming jackpot winning tickets. Only California can make that decision.

you should say, hard come easy go.

It is not easy to win the lottery.

the winner is making dump decisions.

he could buy houses under 1 million and flip them, and he will make tons of profit. buy 20 houses for 1 mil, and resell for a short term, he could make 50k for each house, do the math.

It is frightening. I do not envy Edwin Castro with all this much attention. I'm grateful my state allows anonymous claiming. Unfortunately, someone's life must come to a sad end ala Abraham Shakespeare in Florida before California decides to allow players the same privilege others enjoy in many states.

No one survives this much public attention, fascination and jealousy. This is a dangerous thing others states were smart enough to figure out and protect the lives of winners. For a state that pride itself being on the side of consumers, it's beyond baffling California is stuck in the past. How ironic.

The house in Hollywood Hills is a gold mine that will only increase in value over the years. Buying property is not like buying a car. If you are in the right location the property value goes up and up. If this is what Mr. Castro has in mind it will mean money for his children and grandchildren years from now. Long-term investments can prevent future headaches if done right.
